Es handelt sich um eine sehr anspruchsvolle Tour durch die Naturlandschaft der Ilm-Saale-Platte. Nach dem ersten langgestreckten Anstieg des Cospedaer Grunds führt die Route direkt an der Gedenkstätte 1806 in Cospeda vorbei in Richtung Napoleonstein im Naturschutzgebiet Windknollen, von wo aus Napoleon seine Truppen lenkte. Von dort geht es über das Plateau ins Rautal, einem wunderschönen, bergigen Laubwald. Auf der Landstraße durchquert man Closewitz und Lützeroda, vorbei an der alten Kirche und entlang des Napoleon-Radwanderwegs. Hinter Lützeroda führt die Route auf Forstwegen durch den Wald Richtung B7 und in einigem Abstand über dieser auf einem märchenhaft anmutenden Waldweg am Hang entlang auf dem Marschall-Lannes-Weg. Der letzte Abschnitt ist am schwierigsten und kann durch einen Wechsel auf die B7 ausgelassen werden. Allerdings wird man mit einer traumhaften Aussicht über Jena und die umliegende Landschaft belohnt, wenn man die schmalen Hangwege meistert. Die Strecke ist insbesondere in den Abendstunden zu empfehlen, wenn die Sonne niedrig steht und ein schönes Licht auf die Hänge wirft. Die Tour endet nach einer steilen Abfahrt wieder beim Braugasthof Papiermühle im Mühltal. Hier lohnt sich eine Stärkung mit hausgebrautem Alt Jenaer Bockbier. Die durchschnittliche Steigung beträgt 6%, maximal 26%. Ein geländegängiges Fahrrad und gute Kondition sind unbedingt nötig. Schwindelfreiheit ist zu empfehlen, weil es zum Ende hin in der Nähe des Cospedaer Grunds sehr schmale Hangwanderwege entlang geht, auf denen das Fahrrad unter Umständen getragen werden muss und während der gesamten Strecke steile Hänge und Abfahrten über losem Boden zu meistern sind.

It is a very demanding tour of the natural landscape of the Ilm-Saale-plate.
