Parcheggiata l'auto e riempita la sacca idrica alla fontana, si prende subito la stradina al vicino incrocio. Ben presto inizia una lunga salita - tratti ripidi nella parte iniziale - su sterrata che risale il bosco sulle pendici est del M. Genzana. Dopo 1.100 metri di salita, si esce dal bosco per poi rientrarci e con andamento a saliscendi si sale per altri 300 m. circa fino ad immettersi su una sterrata proveniente dal versante ovest (Scanno) a quota 1.860 ca. Si segue ora, a sx, la sterrata principale con bellissime vedute sulle montagne circostanti. Si scende fino al bivio che, sulla dx., condurrebbe al Lago Pantaniello e si prosegue dritto attraversando un'area attrezzata e giungendo infine sull'altipiano delle 5 miglia. Un breve tratto erboso, poi si ritrova una sterrata che si segue fino a raggiungere il paese di Rocca Pia. Un breve tratto su asfalto fino a trovare l'inizio delle strada "Napoleonica", un sentiero a tratti pietroso che conduce fino a Pettorano. Su asfalto, ci si immette sulla SS 17 e, in breve, si torna al punto di partenza. Strada SS17 (Sulmona - Roccaraso), slargo con fontanile incrocio per Introdacqua (vicinanze Pettorano sul Gizio).
