Für mich ist dies eine der außergewöhnlichsten und zugleich spektakulärsten Mountainbiketouren, die ich je unternommen habe. Sie führt teils auf slowenischem, teils auf italienischem Gebiet über einen wunderbaren Aussichtsberg, den Matajur. Mountainbikemäßig wird einiges geboten: Toll zu fahrender, abwechslungsreicher Aufstieg und eine Abfahrt, die ihres Gleichen Sucht: Der italienische Wanderweg 749 nach San Pietro. Man kann die Tour sowohl in Kobarid im Soccatal starten, aber auch ein Start im italienischen San Pietro ist möglich. Ich bin in Kobarid gestartet. Ein früher Start ist aus meheren Gründen empfehlenswert: vor allem ist es dann bei der Auffahrt von ca. 200m auf über 1600m nicht ganz so heiß. Es ist sehr wichtig, genügend Wasser dabei zu haben. Zwar gibt es am Matajur eine Hütte (Dom na Matajur), an der man auf der Tour vorbeikommt. Diese war aber geschlossen, als ich gerade da war. Etwa einen halben Kilometer nach Beginn der Abfahrt, 100m unterhalb des Gipfels, gibt es einen Brunnen mit klarem Trinkwasser, der Ende August ausreichend Wasser führte. Verlassen würde ich mich auch hier nicht drauf. Die Abfahrt: LEGENDÄR! Ein Singletrail vom Gipfel bis nach San Pietro hinab, etwa 1300Hm! Gut, der erste Teil, nördlich des Gipfels ist eine üble Tragestrecke, hier muss man das Rad umständlich über Felsen balancieren, aber diese Passage ist nur kurz. Die Abfahrt ist traumhaft. Leider wird sie des Öfteren durch Schiebepassagen unterbrochen, diese sind aber allesamt nur recht kurz. Anstrengend fand ich die Abfahrt dadurch aber schon. Auf jeden Fall: ein einmaliges Erlebnis. Auch ist es ein tolles Gefühl, wenn man sich plötzlich in der norditalienischen Ebene befindet und sich ein Gelati oder einen Espresso gönnt. Zurück nach Kobarid geht es erst auf der Straße, die aber nicht so stark befahren ist. In Robic gibt es eine schöne Badestelle im Fluss, die auch recht gut besucht ist. Auf schöner Schotterstrecke geht es durchs Tal zurück bis nach Kobarid.

For me this is one of the most extraordinary and spectacular mountain biking at the same time that I have ever undertaken. It leads partly in Slovenia, partly in Italian territory through a wonderful mountain views, the Matajur. Mountainbike default has much to offer: Great to be traveled, varied ascent and a descent that likes her addiction: the Italian trail 749 to San Pietro. You can either start the tour in Kobarid in Soccatal, but also a start in the Italian San Pietro is possible. I started in Kobarid. Well, the first part, north of the summit is a bad haul carrier, here you have to balance the wheel cumbersome over rocks, but this passage is short. The departure is gorgeous. Unfortunately, it is often interrupted by sliding passages, but these are all just short. Exhausting I found the exit but already characterized. In any case: a unique experience. Also it's a great feeling when you suddenly find yourself in the northern Italian plane and a gelati or an espresso begrudge. Back to Kobarid it only works on the road is not so busy. In Robic there is a nice swimming area in the river, which is also very well attended. On beautiful gravel roads it goes through the valley back up to Kobarid.
