Si parte dal parcheggio del parco di Melta percorrendo la strada verso Gardolo prima della rotonda a 200 metri dal parcheggio si sale su una stradina stretta ma asfaltata ma con pendenza fino al 18 19% e già dai primi metri si può vedere Melta dall'alto. La stradina sbocca direttamente sotto Martignano, si prosegue verso sinistra passando davanti al cimitero in direzione Montevaccino, si continua a salire fino ad aver oltrepassata i due tornanti ed una ampia curva verso destra. Da qui si prosegue su strada (sulla destra dopo la curva) sterrata separata da una sbarra. Arrivati in cima ci si trova davanti al rifugio dove si può fermarsi sulla terrazza ad ammirare la valle. Si prosegue scendendo verso sud in direzione Villamontagna sempre su strada sterrata, da qui si comincia a scendere sulla strada statale verso Cognola da dove si dovrà proseguire tornando in direzione Martignano e rimboccare la stessa stradina che abbiamo fatto in partenza che ci porterà direttamente da dove siamo partiti.
