Della Settecentesca via Vandelli voluta dal Duca di Modena per collegare Modena con Massa sono rimasti pochi tratti di godibile percorribilità: questa traccia ricalca piuttosto fedelmente il secondo tracciato originale di questa antica strada nel tratto Modena - Lama Mocogno.Per la maggior parte viene ricalcata dalla viabilità moderna, in altri casi non è possibile la transitabilità a causa della folta vegetazione che è cresciuta in mezzo (la discesa tra gli alberi dal Malandrone al rio Torto proseguirebbe in linea quasi retta e attraverserebbe il torrente a guado).
Due sono i punti di faticosa percorribilità a causa della forte pendenza e del fondo pietroso:- la salita dal Luoghetto (agriturismo dopo Torre Maina) a Gaiano;- la salita dal rio Torto al crinale delle Lamette.
