Die Tour führt ab Dorfen auf dem Vilstalradweg bis Vilshofen (ca. 126 Km) und mündet dort in den Donauradweg bis nach Passau (23,5 Km). Die Strecke führt größtenteils auf Asphalt aber auch Feld-, Wald und Wiesenwegen auf meist schwach befahrenen Strassen. Landschaftlich ist es eine sehr schöne Tour mit Blick auf das Vils- und Donautal. Start ist im oberbayerischen Sankt Wolfgang und führt auf dem Radweg bis nach Dorfen. Ab Dorfen verläuft der Vilstalradweg auf einer aufgelassenen Bahnstrecke. Durch den Einschnitt der Bahntrasse in das abwechslungsreiche Hügelland ist eine fast ebene Trasse mit nur wenigen Steigungen gegeben. Über Taufkirchen (Vils) geht es bis zum ehemaligen Bahnhof in Velden auf dieser bequemen Strecke. In Velden bietet sich der „Waggon“, ein stillgelegter Messwagen, zur Rast an. In schönster Biergartenatmosphäre kann man sich für die weitere Strecke stärken. Ab Vilsöhl überzeugt die Strecke durch die Schönheit und Ursprünglichkeit der Vils. Die ausgeprägten Flussschlingen (Mäander), die sich durch ein weiträumiges Wiesental schlängeln, eine Situation, die in Deutschlands Flusstälern nur noch selten zu finden ist. Außerdem sind hier noch zahlreiche Mühlen in Betrieb, welche durch ihren Standort und ihre Geschichte auch trotz moderner Technik eine gewisse Romantik früherer Zeit ausstrahlen. Weiter geht es Fluss abwärts nach Gerzen. Die ehemalige Hofmark gehört zu den ältesten Ortschaften des Vilstals. Vom Radweg blicken Sie über das weiträumige Vilstal mit ausgedehnten Wiesen und einem naturnahen Flusslauf. Kurz vor Frontenhausen sollten Sie es sich bei schönem Wetter nicht entgehen lassen ein erfrischendes Bad in der Vils zu nehmen. Dieses romantische Flussbad ist eine Besonderheit, wie es sie auf der Strecke nur einmal gibt. Vom Naturschutzgebiet „Vilstalsee bei Marklkofen“ geht es noch weitere 48 Km durch das vom Gemüseanbau geprägte Niederbayern. Eine Rast in einem der gemütlichen Biergärten ist vielerorts möglich. Die restliche Strecke führt den Radfreund durch das "Naturschutzgebiet Vilsengtal" bis die Vils in Vilshofen in den Donaustrom mündet. Der Donau-Radweg führte mich über Vilshofen nach Passau. Die Ausschilderung war auch hier aller erste Sahne. Vor allem wie die einen in Passau in die Stadt lotsen. Sagenhaft, man kann sich gar nicht verfahren, bei der ganzen Ausschilderung. Das steht sogar auf dem Asphalt des Radlweges “Donauradweg” und teilweise ist der auch noch rot markiert. Mit der Südostbayernbahn ging es dann zurück über Mühldorf nach Dorfen (ca. 3 Std.). Vom Bahnhof aus sind es dann noch ca. 7 Km zum Startpunkt nach Sankt Wolfgang zurück. Für mich war es eine tolle Jahresabschlußfahrt (ich bin die Tour am 31.12.2012 gefahren.

The tour leads you from Villages on the bike path to Vilstal Vilshofen (about 126 Km) and ends there in the Danube cycle path to Passau (23.5 Km). The route runs mostly on tarmac but also field, forest and meadow paths on mostly low traffic roads. The landscape is a very nice tour with views of the Danube Valley and Vils-. Home is in Bavaria Sankt Wolfgang and leads to the cycle path to Villages. From the Villages Vilstal cycle path on an abandoned railway line. Through the incision of the railway line in the varied hilly country an almost flat line is given with only a few inclines. About Taufkirchen (Vils) it goes on this comfy stretch to the former railway station in Velden. In Velden itself offers & bdquo; Waggon & ldquo ;, a disused trolley, to rest on. Boasting a beer garden atmosphere you can strengthen the further route. From Vilsöhl the track convinced by the beauty and originality of Vils. The pronounced meanders (meanders), winding through a spacious meadow valley, a situation that can be found only rarely in Germany river valleys. In addition, here are numerous mills in operation, which radiate a certain romance earlier times by their location and their history, despite modern technology. Continue downhill to the river Gerzen. The former Hofmark one of the oldest towns in the Vilstals. From the bike trail overlooks the spacious Vilstal with extensive meadows and a natural river. Shortly before Frontenhausen you should do not miss out in fine weather a refreshing dip in the Vils. This romantic river pool is a feature, as it exists only once on the track. From the nature reserve & bdquo; Vilstalsee at Marklkofen & ldquo; is there another 48 km through the embossed market gardens of Lower Bavaria. A break in one of the cozy beer gardens is possible in many places. The rest of the route leads through the Radfreund the " nature reserve Vilsengtal " to the Vils in Vilshofen empties into the Danube. The Danube Bike Trail led me over Vilshofen to Passau. The signs were all top notch here. Especially as a guide in Passau in the city. Incredibly, you can not get lost in the whole signs. This is even on the asphalt of the Radlweges & ldquo; Danube Cycle Path & rdquo; and partly the still marked in red. With the SüdostBayernBahn we went back over Mühldorf to Villages (3 hrs.). From the station there are still about 7 km to the starting point to Sankt Wolfgang back. For me it was a great year-end closing drive (I'm the tour moved on 31.12.2012.
