La dorsale del Monte Tomba e della Monfenera, ossia il lembo più orientale del Massiccio del Grappa, sul finire del 1917 si trovò lungo la prima linea del fronte della Grande Guerra: il 30 Dicembre la vetta venne conquistata dall’esercito alleato con all’importante contributo del battaglione Chasseur des Alpes, i fanti francesi giunti in supporto delle truppe italiane.
L’itinerario, che prevede la doppia scalata al monte, parte da Pederobba presentando un breve trasferimento fino a Virago, dove si impenna con decisione risalendo le pendici meridionali del Monte Tomba con una serie di tornanti alternati a brevi pianori. Al terzo chilometri di salita, incontrato l’asfalto, si prosegue con pendenze più dolci fino a scollinare sul crinale della Monfenera.
Con un single track e una mulattiera a tornanti si scende sul versante nord fino a raggiungere il fondovalle, proseguendo poi tra gli sterrati e i sentieri che risalgono il torrente Ornic intersecando la rotabile che collega Alano di Piave al Monte Grappa.
Si torna nuovamente a salire: prima su asfalto, poi su una carrareccia a tratti ripida, quindi su di un breve single track, si arriva a una mulattiera pianeggiante che con un lungo traverso panoramico conduce alla sommità del Monte Tomba, dove la corona dei sette pennoni di bandiera, una per ogni nazione impegnata nella Grande Guerra, ricorda i tragici eventi bellici che qui si svolsero.
Ha finalmente inizio la picchiata sul segnavia 213, un divertente trail dal fondo sassoso che scende serpeggiando nel bosco con una serie di passaggi tecnici e ripidi; il sentiero, lungo poco meno di due chilometri, si innesta poi su una ripida cementata che termina a Cavaso del Tomba.
Il rientro al punto di partenza si svolge tra le campagne della Valcavasia e la scenografica dorsale tra i borghi di Castelcies e Castelli, con un ultimo largo guado dove potrebbe essere necessario procedere a piedi.

has finally begun on the beaten trail 213, a fun trail that descends from the stony bottom snaking through the woods with a series of technical steps and steep; the path, a little less than two miles, then joins on a steep cemented ending in Cavaso del Tomba.
The return to the starting point takes place between the campaigns of Valcavasia and the scenic ridge between the villages of Castelcies and Castles, with one last deep ford where it may be necessary to proceed on foot.
