La Spoleto Norcia era una linea secondaria a scartamento ridotto inaugurata nel 1926 e soppressa insieme a tante altre ferrovie minori nel 1968. Il tratto da Spoleto fino a Cerreto è attualmente precorribile in larga parte, comprese le gallerie elicoidali presenti nel tratto che scende verso la Valnerina e che ne fanno un'interessante opera ingegneristica.
Per l'attraversamento di alcune delle gallerie è necessaria una luce sufficientemente potente; è consigliato anche dell'abbigliamento aggiuntivo specie in estate visto che all' interno della galleria di valico (lunga 1900 metri) la temperatura è piuttosto bassa.
Il percorso parte dalla zona nord di Spoleto, da Via Pietro Conti che è nelle immediate vicinanze della rotonda della vecchia Flaminia e dello svincolo della nuova SS3 a quattrocorsie. Si passa sotto alla nuova Flaminia e si gira a sinistra per imboccare la ferrovia oltre una sbarra. Si sale costantemente fino a trovarsi la strada sbarrata da una rete di un fondo chiuso: il tratto fino a Caprareccia non è purtroppo percorribile ed occorre quindi aggirare il fondo chiuso, a sinistra si imbocca un single in ripida discesa marcato dal CAI, che va poi lasciato appena si trova un ulteriore single a sinistra, in fondo si tiene la destra fino a sboccare in una strada sterrata che va presa a destra salendo. Si va sempre diritto, poi si tiene la destra ritrovando la rete del fondo chiuso e si continua a salire abbastanza ripidamente fino ad uscire sulla SS395 che sale da Spoleto, proprio sotto il viadotto di Caprareccia.
Si prende a sinistra e dopo un tornante si gira a destra rientrando nel sedime ferroviario nei pressi della stazione di Caprareccia. Poco dopo si incontra la lunga e gelida galleria di valico, in fondo alla quale inizia la lunga discesa verso il fondovalle del Nera. Il tracciato perde lentamente quota con ampi tornanti, alcuni dei quali in galleria: l'ultima galleria non è ancora stata consolidata e si aggira da destra su uno stretto viottolo, per poi scendere su terreno sempre meno pulito fino a sboccare nei pressi di una casa. Si abbandona il tracciato della ferrovia e si prende a sinistra per scendere alla SR209 che va attraversata (occhio al traffico, solitamente intenso). Il tracciato riprende sulla destra della strada principale sotto forma di una sterrata che seguirà dapprima la strada per poi discostarsene attraversando il Nera e costeggiando il fiume fino nei pressi di Cerreto. Qui si passa due volte il Nera, la seconda su una passerella pedonale, e si segue la strada asfaltata che porta dapprima ad uno stabilimento di imbottigliamento di acqua minerale e poi alle case di Borgo Cerreto: il tracciato originale, che corre giusto sotto alla strada, si infrasca ed è poi interrotto da alcune costruzioni industriali.
Il rientro può avvenire sullo stesso percorso: la distanza complessiva è di 62 km con 960 metri di dislivello. In alternativa, considerando anche la difficoltà di pedalare in salita sul fondo ciottoloso da poco ripristinato, è possibile chiudere il giro utilizzando la SS395. Da Spoleto, appena passato il cavalcavia si seguono le indicazioni per Piedipaterno, dopo 6 km di salita al 5% si arriva a Caprareccia dove si imbocca la ferrovia. Arrivati a Cerreto si torna indietro e all'altezza di Pedipaterno si lascia il percorso attraversando il Nera e imboccando la stessa SS395 che in 12 km sale fino ai 730 metri della Forca al Cerro, dove inizia la discesa verso Caprareccia. A questo punto si imbocca la variante che aggira il fondo chiuso e, una volta rientrati sulla ferrovia, si scende fino a Spoleto. In questo modo i km sono 57 ed il dislivello scende a 850 metri.

The route starts from the north of Spoleto, Via Pietro Conti is in the immediate vicinity of the rotunda of the old Flaminia and the release of the new SS3 to quattrocorsie. It always goes right, then keep right rediscovering the network of closed-end fund and continue to climb quite steeply up to go out on the SS395 that goes from Spoleto, just under the viaduct Caprareccia.
Turn left and after a hairpin turn to the right being part of the grounds near the railway station Caprareccia. Shortly after you meet the long and icy tunnel crossing, the bottom of which begins the long descent to the valley of the Nera. The track slowly loses altitude with wide turns, some of them in the gallery: the last gallery has not yet been established and wanders from the right on a narrow path, then down on the ground less and less clean until it emerges near a house . Leave the railway line and turn left to go down to SR209 that goes across (watch the traffic, usually intense). The trail resumes on the right side of the main road in the form of a dirt road that follows the first street and then crossing the Black and depart from the river until near Cerreto. Here you go twice Nera, the second on a footbridge, and follow the paved road that leads first to a mineral water bottling plant and then to the houses of Borgo Cerreto: the original path, which runs just below the road , you infrasca and is then interrupted by some industrial buildings.
The return can take place on the same path: the total distance is 62 km with 960 meters of ascent. Alternatively, considering the difficulty of pedaling uphill on the bottom of pebbles, recently restored, you can close the circle by using the SS395. From Spoleto, just past the overpass and follow the signs for Piedipaterno, after 6 km climb to 5% Caprareccia you get to where you take the train. Once in Cerreto you go back and live up to Pedipaterno you leave the path through the Black and taking the same SS395 that in 12 km climb up to 730 meters of the fork to the Cerro, where begins the descent towards Caprareccia. At this point you take the variant that bypasses the closed-end fund and, once back on the rail, it comes down to Spoleto. In this way, are 57 km and the vertical drop down to 850 meters.
