Inizialmente il giro era inteso diversamente: Dall'alpe Piaggia, continuando verso il rifugio Primatesta, l'idea era di ripiegare su Civiasco, per poi scendere a Varallo e tornare verso Borgosesia. Una volta al Primatesta sono invece salito alla Sella del Gallo (m1055) per poi scendere mediante un sentiero bello ma completamente ricoperto di neve fino a raggiungere una frazione di Boleto. Una volta lì d'obbligo è stata una breve sosta al santuario di Madonna del Sasso; Per tornare verso Borgosesia da qui le varianti sono essenzialmente due: portarsi all'altitudine del lago, a Pella, e intraprendere la Cremosina, oppure raggiungere Valpiana attraverso i monti tra Boleto e la Valsesia. Nonostante il buio fosse già calato da qualche minuto in questo caso è stata scelta la seconda opzione.
Nota: il sentiero a scendere dalla Sella del Gallo è molto bello, anche se la molta neve e le moltissime foglie a terra non lo rendono praticabile nella maniera in cui dovrebbe.

Note: the path to get out of the Sella del Gallo is very nice, although a lot of snow and a lot of leaves on the ground does not make it practicable in the way it should.
