Provenendo da Ascoli Piceno (direzione Acquasanta Terme) fissiamo il punto di partenza in prossimità dell’uscita Ponte d’Arli. Bypassata la galleria ci lasciamo a sx l’antico ponte romano ed iniziamo subito a salire ripidi prima sul Monte Campero ed a seguire sul Monte Castello. La strada ripiana andando a tagliare il panoramico crinale montuoso che separa il Fosso dei Mottari dal Fosso della Sala. Giunti al bivio per Piandelloro si prosegue verso il minuscolo abitato di Scalelle e in breve si raggiunge il paese di Pastina. Passiamo attraverso il borgo prendendo a dx in prossimità di una fonte uscendo sui prati aperti. Transitiamo su pista sterrata che scende veloce dal Pizzo fino a raggiungere la confluenza tra il Fosso dell’Acqua Salata ed il Fosso Abetella. Ci troviamo in una zona remota e dimenticata, teatro, anni or sono, di spaventosi incendi di dubbia natura. La sterrata, inizialmente veloce e divertente, scivola giù dal Pizzo trasformandosi in un single track piuttosto sporco ma comunque divertente. Guadagnata la base del fossato, in corrispondenza di un vecchio rudere, usciamo su una brecciata e svoltiamo a sx. Poco prima di incrociare la s.p. per Agelli giriamo a dx, scendiamo di qualche metro e dopo aver attraversato il ponte sul torrente incominciamo a risalire verso il Monte Castellaro. La strada si innalza ripida passando dai Casali Ticchio, luoghi dove il tempo pare essersi fermato da circa un secolo, attorno solo il silenzio della natura rotto di tanto in tanto dal guaito dei cani. Ripresa quota 670m circa incrociamo il bitume e prendiamo a dx onde portaci alle pendici del Monte Castellaro. Viriamo a sinistra per salire lungo l’ennesima sterrata che conduce fin poco sotto la sommità del monte. Anche qui, solito scenario: gli incendi hanno devastato la grande pineta che ricopriva la montagna e spesso la nostra traccia risulta invasa da tronchi d’albero abbattutisi di traverso. Ma la visuale è a dir poco grandiosa sulla Montagna dei Fiori, sulla Laga e sui Sibillini. Scendiamo all’abitato di San Giacomo e riprendiamo la strada brecciata che cala veloce alle Case Radicina. Sulla dx di un’abitazione parte il bel sentiero per il Fosso di Chiossino, una pista sterrata ben battuta che permette buone performance. La traccia devia verso sinistra ed entra nella parte finale del Fosso delle Coste poi, mantenendosi sempre alla sinistra del Rio Nile, lo costeggia con un bellissimo sentiero ombroso. Qualche passaggio leggermente tecnico non inficia la scorrevolezza del trail il quale prosegue fino all’arrivo, il tutto in una boscaglia rigogliosa e regalando particolari scorci di una natura selvaggia incastonata nel Fosso del Rio Nile.

Coming from Ascoli Piceno (direction Acquasanta Terme) we fix the starting point near the exit Ponte d'Arli. Bypassed the gallery we leave to the left the ancient Roman bridge and immediately begin a steep climb before the Monte Campero and to follow on Monte Castello. The road ripiana going to cut the scenic mountain ridge that separates the Fosso dei Mottari the Fosso della Sala. At the junction for Piandelloro continue towards the tiny village of Scalelle and you will soon reach the town of Pastina. We pass through the village taking right in the vicinity of a source coming out on the open meadows. Passing on dirt track that goes down fast from Pizzo until you reach the confluence of the Fosso Acqua Salata and the Fosso Abetella. We are in a remote area and forgotten, theater, years ago, of fearsome fire of dubious nature. The track, initially fast and fun, slides down from Pizzo transformed into a single track rather dirty but still fun. Earned the base of the ditch, at an old ruin, we go out on a brecciated and turn left. Just before joining the Sp Agelli to turn right, go down a few feet and after crossing the bridge over the river begin to rise towards the Monte Castellaro. The road rises steeply rising from Casali whim, places where time seems to have stood still for about a century, around the silence of nature only broken occasionally by the yelping of dogs. Resumption share about 670m crossed the bitumen and take a right waves take us on the slopes of Monte Castellaro. Viriamo left to climb down yet another dirt road that leads to just below the summit of the mountain. Again, usual scenario: the fires have devastated large pine forest that covered the mountain, and often our track is invaded by tree trunks that hit sideways. But the view is nothing short of grand on the Mountain of Flowers on the Sibillini and Laga. We go down to the village of San Giacomo and take the road with gravel that drops quickly to Case radicina. On the right side of a house the beautiful path for the Fosso di Chiossino, a well trodden dirt trail that allows good performance. The trail branches off to the left and enter the final part of the Fosso delle Coste then, keeping always to the left of the Rio Nile, along with the beautiful shady path. Any technical passage slightly does not affect the smoothness of the trail which continues until the arrival, all in a lush bush and giving special glimpses of a wild set in Fosso del Rio Nile.
