Trail Description

This is a wonderful journey that takes place on the borders of Laga, on the part of that wild ridge that descends from Macera Death nell'ascolano to separate the valley of the Rio Castellano from Valle del Tronto. Zone theater once the phenomenon of brigandage, steeped in history, areas furrowed years ago by a thriving sheep and now frequented only by a few. The ride starts from the parking Rio Acquasanta Terme. From the Salaria, direction Ascoli, we turn off to the right for Pozza-Umito and is going to drive about nine kilometers of bitumen admiring leaps from rock on Gorges Garrafo. Arriving at the village of Umito, at an old church, take the road that goes to the left and leads immediately to another fork in the road, the one with the long avenue for Maularo firebreaks. There are about ten miles easy carriage road that winds through the woods and the top offers great views of the Falls and on Volpara Macera of Death. Once svalicato turn left and follow the obvious trail that begins to fall. Passed a rudimentary gate shepherds go out on a lawn and continue the descent ignoring the dirt on the right slips into a shelter. It falls into the bush, we are always on the ridge, but we begin to veer toward the right and cross the meadow along until you reach the Colle Lice, on a plateau of sandstone. The track just falls in the forest, it has a junction, ie the one with the path 317 (not reported) that falls in the forest of San Cerbone. It ignores the latter turning left and going to walk the beautiful ridge of Sao Paulo. The trail now narrows becoming sublime downhill single track that winds through the woods and gigantic slabs of sandstone giving views of the Valle del Tronto and that of Catsellano. The characteristic feature of the area is the Rock of Montecalvo, a castle belonging to the family Guiderocchi which is located on the cliff overlooking San Martino. Its construction dates back to the period of battlements, with the abandonment of the viability of the routes in the valley typical of the Roman era in favor of the paths of the ridge. The fortress can be visited by making a small detour to the left, but continuing down the path, which now has well-marked cross the sp at the crossing of St. Paul. Paths a hundred yards in the direction Acquasanta turn right onto a dirt road that climbs steeply. In the vicinity of an antenna go down to the left on a small track that presents here and there, old wooden signs. And 'the beautiful path of Piane suddenly discovered that after entering the woods, crossing the sp more downstream. As soon as we leave the asphalt, if you pay due attention, you can see the other side of the road a small track that falls along the coast of the Jerk. Still yet another thrilling single track, yet fun style wild. We are now in the midst of the Fosso di Matrisciano. The exciting trail that crosses it in full, culminating in the village of Cagnano, is also known as "the path of the wild boars." Once you emerge a few steps from the restaurant Tre Lanterne, the final rush winds through the alleys and stairways all the towns of Cagnano and Acquasanta last injection of adrenaline as a worthy end of the route.
