Average speed = 10.4 km / h - Technical Difficulties = 7.4 - GD = 60 Medium / Hard
NOTE: This tour is a classic of the Dolomites but lacked a description starting by Cimabanche, closer to those coming from the Venetian plain. In addition, the ride was embellished with some variants such as the splendid descent to the Val Stolla and the transition between high and Villabassa Dobbiaco, poorly understood. The possibility of parking / departure are varied (eg. Carbonin and Lake Landro (wanting to avoid the final ascent to Cimabanche), and finally who was staying the Val Pusteria will be convenient from Dobbiaco Station or Villabassa with a reduction of Km and altitude.
DESCRIPTION
It starts fast descent on the SS for Dobbiaco: 2.5 Km are requiring about 4 min, then at the fork in us getting ready for the long climb. (Note: slightly later there is a park from which you would avoid the final ascent shortening the span of about 5 km and 100 m altitude).
The climb takes place on the south side and in the summer you sweat a lot even if the slope is never prohibitive and various asphalting have simplified the rise; unique possibility to rest at q. 1830 thanks to a fountain. In the final section some gravel is more challenging but you will be rewarded by the magnificent panorama that opens up more and more.'s digression to Ref. Vallandro is not compulsory but essential because even if you have not turned their eyes towards the south you have not seen the spectacle of the Cristallo group, with the Val Fonda charge of snow until late spring.
Pause, photos, refreshments and if you have time and breath You can also make a detour to the nearby Monte Species (2300 m), with traits difficult trails but 360 ° panorama (less than 1 hour A + R)
Now we descend rapidly towards the north on the dirt road up to the wonderful Ref. Prato Piazza; with his back to Dürrenstein it comes down to the grassy cattle track in pleasant environment, between meadows and baitine to the entrance of the valley of Chenope (D1 wp q. 1935); here we keep to the right and you can find some marshy tract until it reaches a clear path to the other side of a fence; (If the grass is not high, you can bet in a straight line on D2 and you'll find a gate). Since wp D2 short steep descent to the hut Stolla where you start a forest that descends into the Val Stolla and be kept up to q. 1750; here is held in the left path which completely avoids the paved road (Bridge -Prato Square). A q. 1600 meets the road and you will cross several times, continuing on dirt road in Loc. Ponticello, near the homonymous hotel. It now holds the primary less than 1 km, up to the wp G, where you can turn on the trail (NOTE: For the full summer season is best avoided in order not to "clash" with travelers, which in any case must be given the highest priority!) Woman In G1 flows on a large forest; trranquillamente we can continue to Ferrara (Schmieden). Ragguinto the village, continue on the right side of the Rio Braies until you reach the SP in J (q. 1135); the climb to less than 300 m then turn left on the path of the Val Pusteria. Continue until Villabassa Station F.S. and soon after he starts to climb in a panoramic position on the Val Pusteria. It passes through Bad Maistatt and it still goes up to q. In 1260 and then gradually decline until Rienz. From here the route takes the dir. north that will keep substantially to Carbonin.
A nice and easy climb leads to the lake of Dobbiaco where you could / should divert the neighboring lane (former home of Tenino) but verges close to the busy SS Cortina. The trail runs along the track instead dì'inverno that is used for the bottom; in P1 (q. 1300) presents the same alternative: on the left is just the path; takes a path to the right a bit 'coach, who joins the classic ritch near a war cemetery.
Taking the path (we're working on it ... I would not want the next summer was even paved!) is goes slightly uphill to Lake Landro (restaurant and bar). Without a break before the final climb, continue along the lake taking the usual path. Shortly after you will find a unexpected difficulty: the frequent torrential rains move large masses of ghiaria on the track and the balance can become unstable if it is not "well-Wheel."
Note: the point wp S, who had parked Carbonin or at the foot of the hill (park A1 q. 1445), must keep to the right and it is almost here. The track requires full instead of continuing on the gravel but soon improves recognizable returning the former seat of the train; shortly after you cross the SS for Misurina; still 3 km easy climb and reach the point of Cimabanche where we parked the car.
From CORTINA d'Ampezzo take the SS to TOBLACH; continue until the crossing Cimabanche q. 1530 (on the border with Trentino) where there is parking and a bar.
