Il rifugio Valcaira, non gestito, è di proprietà della sezione CAI di Ormea ed è ai piedi del Pizzo d'Ormea.
L'escursione, con vista stupenda sul Colle di Nava, consta di un anello, più la salita al rifugio, quest'ultima, in salita è decisamente poco pedalabile, vuoi per la pendenza, vuoi per il fondo fortemente sconnesso, si può quindi optare per il semplice anello, che porta comunque in posti stupendi, facendo un giro di tutto rispetto.
Per chi sale al rifugio, la discesa per la strada di salita è tutt'altro che scontata, pietra smossa di tutte le dimensioni, costringono a mettere un impegno notevole anche nella discesa.
Facendo il solo anello, è tutto pedalabile, in parte su larga sterrata e in parte su sentiero piuttosto largo, il fondo è a tratti pessimo, va fatto quindi con attenzione. Ormea è sulla direttrice del Colle di Nava, tra Garessio ed il colle stesso.

The refuge Valcaira, unmanaged, is owned by the CAI section of Ormea and is at the foot of the Pizzo d'Ormea.
