Nella parte iniziale del percorso abbiamo cercato di passare dal parco delle Marmitte dei Giganti ma attualmente è tutto quanto in manutenzione e non c'è verso di passare da lì (fine lavori prevista Agosto 2009 !). Quindi siamo ritornati sulla strada principale che va da Sarsina a Quarto e abbiamo preso la mulattiera con direzione Careste (anche passando dal parco delle marmitte dei giganti ci saremmo dovuti ricongiungere alla stessa mulattiera ma più a monte). Inizialmente,non appena inizia la mulattiera, sulla sx, c'è un pannello con i percorsi fattibili in mtb in zona Sarsina!
La salita non è lunga però lascia pochi tratti per prendere fiato e nel tratto finale c'è una salita abbastanza impegnativa. Dopo circa 9km dalla partenza, passato Careste, arrivati a circa 700 mt di altidudine, si lascia il crinale (continuando sul crinale si arriva a congiungersi con l'altro percorso, Quarto -variante-) e si prende una stradina a sx in discesa, chiusa inizialmente da una sbarra.
Ora inizia la discesa molto varia, si passa da singletrack nel bosco a tratti 'lunari' di sola roccia (secondo me le protezioni sono indispensabili in queste discese) con gradoni di sassi, molto tecnici e lenti, e tratti anche abbastanza veloci. Saltuariamente troveremo ai bordi del percorso qualche rudere, segno della civiltà passata.Alla fine si sbuca accanto ad una casa abitata e poi una discesa su asfalto ci riporterà alla strada principale Sarsina-Quarto e poi alla nostra macchina.
Consigliato lo zaino idrico abbastanza capiente (non ho visto fontane lungo tutto il percorso).

In the initial part of the trail we tried to move from the park Potholes but everything is currently under maintenance and there's no way to go from there (completion expected in August 2009). So we are back on the main road that goes from Sarsina Quarto and took the mule direction Careste (also passing by the park of potholes we were supposed to rejoin the same trail but further upstream). Initially, when the trail starts on the left, there is a panel with the feasible paths in mtb in the area Sarsina!
The climb is not long, however, leaves a few strokes to catch your breath and in the final stretch, there is a climb quite challenging. After about 9km from the start, past Careste, arrived at about 700 mt of altidudine, you leave the ridge (continuing on the ridge you get to join with the other path, Fourth -variante-) and take a left down a narrow street, initially closed by a bar.
Now begins the descent very varied, switching from singletrack in the woods at times 'lunar' rock-only (in my opinion protections are essential in these descents) with steps of stones, very technical and lenses , and sometimes even fast enough. Occasionally we will find some ruins on the edge of the trail, a sign of civilization passata.Alla end you will come out next to an inhabited house and then a descent on asphalt will bring us back to the main road Sarsina Fourth-and then to our car.
Recommended backpack water large enough (I have not seen fountains along the way).
