IL SENTIERO DEL LUPO
E' uno dei 5 Sentieri tematici ad anello presenti a Montà d'Alba. Tutti i Sentieri sono palinati; è possibile prolungare l'itinerario incrociando gli altri sentieri presenti.
DESCRIZIONE: Il Sentiero del Lupo, lungo complessivamente 11 km, è così chiamato per via del toponimo della borgata isolata che attraversa, Caialupo, lungo la via che serpeggia nell'austero bosco noto già ai tempi dei romani come silva popularis. Tale toponimo conferma la presenza storica di questo animale nei boschi del Roero: il lupo in Piemonte ha vissuto una stagione di fortunata proliferazione dal 1600 in poi su tutto il territorio regionale, ma con il passare dei secoli la graduale antropizzazione delle campagne ha causato l'estinzione dei branchi.
Anche se definitivamente estinto, la presenza del lupo rimane tenacemente ancorata all'immaginario collettivo delle comunità, in forma impalpabile e radicata allo stesso tempo.
L'ITINERARIO: ha inizio a Montà d'Alba, in piazza Vittorio Veneto, dove è possibile parcheggiare l'auto. Da qui si percorrono via Cavour e via Roma, che portano al centro storico pedonale del borgo di sommità di Montà, dove si possono ammirare la torre campanaria e la piazza della vecchia parrocchia con la chiesa di S. Antonio Abate. Da qui si prosegue su via Morra, fiancheggiando il castello cinquecentesco dei Morra-Lavriano all'ombra del suo parco, e si giunge al Centro Outdoor "Valle delle Rocche".
Percorrendo per un tratto la strada provinciale SP168, si giunge alla Borgata Ghioni, in una valle pianeggiante che ospita innumerevoli castagni secolari detti "della Madonna" per la loro maturazione precoce (intorno all'8 settembre, festa della Madonna).
Da qui, imboccando un sentiero sterrato alla vostra sinistra, si può seguire l'anello naturalistico segnalato con le apposite paline: la strada scende per un breve tratto in un bosco ombroso che giunge in una zona pianeggiante in cui si cammina per lungo tempo fiancheggiati a destra e sinistra da prati e castagneti storici. Veri e propri monumenti vegetali da ammirare, i castagni presenti in questa area sono circa la metà di quelli presenti in tutto il Roero.
Si supera un piccolo rio e si giunge alla strada provinciale che porta alla borgata Valle del Morto.
Alle prime case, superata una bottega apistica, un'indicazione a sinistra orienta l'itinerario verso una breve ma decisa salita, che giunge alle alture del crinale collinare, lungo vigne e pareti sabbiose di Rocche, e chiude l'anello in Borgata Ghioni.
Da qui si ripercorre la strada dell'andata fino al centro storico di Montà e si chiude l'anello.

THE PATH OF THE WOLF
And 'one of the five thematic trails loop in present Monta d'Alba. All trails are palinati; You can extend the route by crossing other trails available.
DESCRIPTION: The Path of the Wolf, a total length of 11 km, is so named because of the name of the township isolated crossing, Caialupo, along the road that winds in the austere woods already known in Roman times as silva popularis. This place name confirms the historical presence of this animal in the woods of Roero: the wolf in Piedmont has experienced a successful season of proliferation from 1600 onwards throughout the region, but over the centuries the gradual man-made campaigns caused the ' extinction of the herds.
Although finally extinguished, the presence of the wolf remains stubbornly anchored in the collective imagination of the community, and rooted in intangible form at the same time.
ROUTE: starts at Monta d 'Alba, in piazza Vittorio Veneto, where you can park your car. From here you travel on Via Cavour and Via Roma, which lead to the historical center of the pedestrian village to the top of Monta, where you can admire the bell tower and the square of the old parish church of S. Antonio Abate. From here we continue on via Morra, skirting the castle of the sixteenth-Morra Lavriano shadow of his park, and we arrive at the Outdoor Center "Valley of Rocks".
Going for a sudden the SP168 provincial road, we reach the Borgata Ghioni, in a flat valley that is home to countless ancient chestnut trees called "the Madonna" for their early maturity (around the 8th of September, the feast of Our Lady).
From here, taking a dirt path on your left, you can follow the ring naturalistic reported with the appropriate poles: the road goes down for a short distance in a shady wood which comes in a flat area where you walk for a long time flanked left and right by meadows and chestnut historians. Real plant monuments to admire, the chestnut trees in this area are about half those found in the Roero.
Exceeds a small stream and you will reach the road that leads to the Valley of the Dead township.
At the first case, after a beekeeping workshop, an indication to the left directs the route to a short but steep climb that leads to the heights of the hill ridge, along vineyards and sandy walls of fortresses, and closes the ring in Borgata Ghioni .
From here we retrace the route of going to the historic center of Monta and closes the ring.
