Trail Description

This route, long and challenging, passes through the heart of the National Park of Gran Sasso giving to those who walk on foot or better, riding a bicycle, an experience that is worth living. We have chosen as a starting point the village of San Giacomo, near Lake Piaganini. Lascaita the car on a clear open space on the right, we heat the legs of bitumen. We take the SS80 of the Gran Sasso of Italy until the junction for ragging Nerito where we turn left. A few rides and you reach the village where they join us some mongrel dogs who live in the area and who will accompany us for most of our hike. When we stand on the square of Nerito, keeping us on the left we are going to take the path of CAI N.100 indicates that there Prato Selva. The road is steep and brecciated, overlooking a creek on the right and down to the latter by going to cross the coast just below the Notary. We cross the river and we always keep on the main path which has now become dirt road and suddenly starts to climb with several switchbacks almost prohibitive. We do not know the path to the right and continue straight Plans dell'Incodara definitely penetrating into the bush. Between climbs and cycling in tears shoulder pass under the Coste-ends. The area is of great interest and only when we cross we realize the wealth of fauna and flora that we have around. After a decided tearing in the middle of a clump of ferns, come out just below the bike park Prato Selva. At this point we could spare about 300m in altitude by taking advantage of the lifts, but since our liter of beer on the way back we have to earn, then we decided to climb to the Col Abetone passing from starda forest. It rises sharply while the wood starts to give way to the meadows. Reached a plateau, the road descends slightly. After going through the facilities of the bike park, we keep strictly on the left to the right, leaving the road clear that reports to the Plans dell'Incodara. A avolta bypassed the hill dell'Abetone, leave the main road at another plateau. Here senbra that the path disappears but looking closely you can see on the side of the lawn oppposto, reports of CAI We returned to the path 100 (ie SI) that now soars on fund no cycle. When we look back we begin to enjoy a great view over the mountains of Laga. The altitude is about 1810 m above sea level, we are just below the Colle Andreole and the landscape here is beginning to dolomite. We go down quickly on the Plains of San Pietro exploiting a nice single track. An alert C.A.I. pulled down by some vandal Sunday indicates left Intermesoli. Agrees strongly tie the helmet and wear pads because the descent to the Rifugio del Monte has a moderate difficulty (especially for bikers top coat) but at the same time induces a laciare the brakes so the Boar recommended care. Finally we reach the refuge where we recommend an evening of contemplation the beautiful landscape that surrounds us. In front of us we can admire Mount Corvo and limestone rocks around green fields and grazing horses. The peace here is the host absolute. The shelter has recently been renovated but, needless to say, is not accessible as armored. From an elevation of about 1600m back down this time to the Bosco Vadillo along a spectacular single track that falls into the ditch Venaquaro. Once down to the brook, take the 144 CAI and it travels in the speed leaving him for preferring the left brecciata that goes down to Intermesoli. Now the descent is straightforward and trouble-free but still pretty darn fast. Follow it in the Boar recommends caution because it is still a starda mountain opened to vehicular traffic. From the town of Intermesoli shooting the asphalt in the direction of Pietracamela and at the next junction go back down here too steeply towards Lake Piaganini where there waiting for our liter of beer that we definitely deserved.
