Trail Description

Buona pedalata!

The Lakes of Pilate represent the meta-known and most celebrated of the Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini.
The hike is a concentration of the top attractions of the Monti Sibillini with regard to hiking at altitude.
Great are the views you open on the Plains of Castelluccio, Viola da Forca on Lake Valley and the peaks in front, from the Lakes of Pilate across the basin that holds up to the rocky outcrop of Pizzo del Diavolo.
It is a unique, unforgettable !
out from the hamlet Tofe (Montemonaco) from where the climb begins to Altino (refuge of the GAS).
From Altino begins the ancient Path of the Reapers used since ancient times by the laborers of the area to move to the side Umbria during periods of harvest. The trail runs along the slopes of the Carrier to Forca di Presta.
From here begins the descent on the Plains of Castelluccio in a truly wonderful especially during periods of flowering.
Before reaching Castelluccio (about a mile before of the country) takes the awkward track that goes to the Capanna Ghezzi. At this point have already been covered about 27 Km (1450 m altitude) and from here begins the hardest part of the entire route ..
From the hut you have to take the path that goes over the spring, and that quickly moves to the right to cut the side of the Argentella. The trail is almost everything for cycling and after about an hour and a half of hard work comes to a large saddle called Forca Viola. At this point have been covered and about 32 were exceeded 1900 m ascent.
From here we continue by starting the descent into the side opposite to that from which it comes and taking a series of hairpins very steep and treacherous. At the end of the switchbacks the trail continues on the right, then cut back sharply on the slopes of San Lorenzo and the Fourth Summit of the Observatory. Here pedalability is greatly reduced, alternating short stretches in the saddle with long stretches where you need to push. The path in the vicinity of Pizzo del Diavolo joins the other trail that goes from Foce and which will subsequently path for the descent. The last meters below the lakes are a push.
Once the lakes satisfaction is highest. The view over the valley, and on the vector of Pizzo del Diavolo is really incomparable!
The descent to Foce runs along the Lake Valley and then down to the Plans of Gardosa. The trail is mostly feasible but still very challenging. In the section called "turns" the slope becomes prohibitive.
Da Mouth, take the easy paved road that quickly goes down to the starting point.
Back in the car very tired but completely satisfied.
Happy cycling!
