Trail Description

After having strung together in the Montagna dei Fiori, this time we will try to do the same with the twin mountain that is Mount Campli. Everything was rehearsed. It starts from the Cross Campli. For this excursion, as well as having the Duck turned up again, back pedaling with Boar also the Magician, a specialist in uneven and dangerous. From the cross to take the paved Battaglia which is a few km being located at the foot of Mount Campli. The latter, having the shape of a horseshoe, is constituted by two top, the Monticchio and Mount Foltrone. From the town of Battle deeply earthy part of a track that immediately begins to give us the first problems of pedalability. During the night there was a large ice but the warm morning sun is the dissolving causing the clogging of our transmission. After crossing of cultivated fields in locations chestnuts, in correspondence of a first moat, the Wizard unfortunately suffers the gearbox failure. For him turn over, in fact we even started to say. Too bad, it is envisaged hike suitable for animals like him. I give him the keys to the Pandinobike and go on the journey with Donald Duck that while cursing because of the mud. The fund returns available near Pietrerosse, now we can lighten the mud accumulated and continue to pedal up to Pian Cerreto. We are located just above the Sp for Macchia from the Sun and from this point the cart stops. Part 14A now the trail that climbs steeply on the Costa Dell'Elce. Once at Salluta, the path turns to the left and it keeps the hillside below the Colle Bianco. It is an old path once traveled by the charcoal burners and now reduced very very bad. The continuous landslides have flooded the trail in several places and several tree trunks there bar the way. Below us on the right ditch seems endless as it culminates in the infamous Salinello Gorges. We continue unabated between steep steps until ... suddenly the trail stops at an old and gigantic landslide. Years ago, when it broke away from Colle Bianco a huge portion of the mountain making inaccessible villages of Leofara and stain from the Sun. Usually I try to follow animal tracks in the snow but this time we can not come out of such a situation. We have gone up over the landslide ignoring having a gravel underfoot but completely frozen consequently dangerous. Then myself (I admit) suffers in having the ditch on the left and did not come back pearl. We seem to be in quicksand, the more we try to move forward, the more the situation worsens. The only thing we have left to do is to try to get off by staying within the grooves of the leaves where they are accumulated in order to have a soft bed in case where land in the event of a fall. In part, the company succeeds but now the slope becomes too high and you can not go back unless you have the rope below. In truth would be useful for those 200m down that separate us from the path of salvation. For a moment I start to slip, the Duck remains helpless, but I find a foothold on a tree trunk. We try to get out from different points but it's useless ... we are tired, we start to lose mental clarity and especially the anxiety is taking over. So let's try to exchange a few jokes to defuse, coming to envy the Wizard at this time that will sit at home in front of a big plate of steaming pasta. After we rested astride on tree trunks, the Duck turns into a monkey falling hopelessly behind and taking the bike. I follow him keeping a firm grip on some pretext of luck. To get off the damn 200m took more than an hour but now, between sighs of relief, the Duck, reached the SP I take a photo of those who guard jealously in my wall: biker in action on the landslide. We realize that trying to put together the mountain of Campli has failed but we are equally happy to have reached the provincial unscathed. If we now look back at what we do almost unconsciously mea culpa and I apologize. Now we head towards Guazzano leveraging a network of dirt roads that they bring back the smile and quickly bring us back to the starting point but not before a short stretch of asphalt. AH! I forgot the providential intervention of the Magician on board the pandinobike, looking relaxed and full bellies we recover from the place of departure. A big thank you I want to direct it friend Duck that under these circumstances has shown coolness and spirit of sacrificio.Oggi won the mountain, even the mountain always wins, and sometimes when we are able to master it is only because you wanted it.
