Trail Description

After a long reach across the Lago di Pilato. It is the only natural lake in the Marche region and one of the few glacial lakes, alpine type present in the Apennines. It was formed because of the dam created from the remains of a moraine formed in the Ice Age. The lake is home to an endemic particular, the Chirocefalo Marchesonii is a small crustacean red measuring 9-12 mm and swims with the belly facing up. In popular tradition, the lake was and is considered a magical and mysterious place. In fact takes its name from a legend that in its waters would be over the body of Pontius Pilate sentenced to death by Tiberius. The penalty was not only this, but also the non-burial of his corpse. The body, in a sack, was entrusted to a wagon buffalo left free to wander aimlessly and would have fallen into the lake short by the ridge of the Top of the Redeemer. Dal Lago di Pilato part of the beautiful and technical descent to Mouth embellished by crossing the infamous "Turns", a steep and difficult before the Plan Gardosa.
