Il balcone d'Italia viene chiamata Sighignola, ovvero quella protuberanza sopra Campione. Arrivarci in bici non è niente di che, sono circa 1100 metri di dislivello su per la Val Mara, passando la dogana e entrando in Italia, proseguendo per Lanzo e alla fine arrivando al cosiddetto balcone. Tutto asfalto, anche se alla fine questo è bello sfondato. Un giro che anche i bitumari fanno.
La vera sfida è trovare una discesa ciclabile fino al lago di Lugano. Forse questa è la piú fattibile. Il tratto da Sighignola ad Arogno è in gran parte ripido e in alcuni tratti veramente vert, con un sentiero largo si e no 30cm, tornantini e alcuni tratti esposti. Aggiungendo questo al fatto che ho provato il giro il 25 novembre 2011, quindi a foglie già cadute, si ha un risultato dubbio, dato che i pezzi più impestati sono praticamente invisibili a causa delle foglie.
Però, superata la fascia rocciosa che si trova nel bel mezzo fra Sighignola ed Arogno, il sentiero diventa veramente bello, un vero singletrack alpino. Si arriva ad Arogno e da qui si risale verso Pugerna. Lasciata la strada asfaltata si imbocca una sterrata e dopo poco un sentiero sulla destra (occhio a non mancarlo perchè siete in discesa!). Beh, questo è semplicemente fantastico: flow puro, ed è pure pulito in pieno autunno! Godrete come dei ricci.
La goduria non dura tanto, dato che il sentiero si fa a velocità mach3 e vi sputerá fuori a Bissone, dove si sbuca esattamente alla rotonda dove avete parcheggiato la macchina. A Melide si seguono i cartelli per "Campione". Presso la rotonda da cui parte l'imbocco per l'autostrada in direzione Lugano si può parcheggiare gratuitamente (vedere punto di partenza nella cartina qui sotto)

Adding this to the fact that I've tried around 25 November 2011, then leaves already fallen, there is an equivocal result, given that the most pest-ridden pieces are almost invisible because of the leaves.
However, after the rock band that is located in the middle between Sighignola and Arogno, the trail becomes really beautiful, a true alpine singletrack. You will come to Arogno and from there back to Pugerna. Leaving the road take a dirt road and after a little path on the right (be careful not to miss it because you are down). Well, this is just great: pure flow, and it's clean in the middle of autumn! Enjoy as hedgehogs.
The pleasure does not last long, since the path is to speed mach3 and will spit out a Bissone, where you will come out exactly the roundabout where you parked the car. A Melide follow the signs for "Champion". At the roundabout where the entrance to the highway in the direction of Lugano you can park for free (see the starting point in the map below)
