Access to starting point: starting from Ravenna must reach the Russians, after the town in the direction of Faenza we have to follow the signs to the village of Prada.Oltrepassato the country, after about 1.3 km crossed the SP60, via Corleto, take it to the right. Following the main road we come to the Parish of Corleto that we find on our right.
Description: immediately after the departure from the Parish of Corleto we find the first tough climb, only a railroad bridge, let's move on to the junction with the Via Emilia, cross the road and follow the road straight in front of us, right after the left-hander is the crossroads where we turn right into Via Castel Leone, 4.5 km from the ancient partenza.CORLETO Coloriterla and then colored indi Coloreta, was the place where now stands the "parish of Corleto" hence the name. Maybe in that land, during the Roman era, abundant herb that was used to dye cloth and canvas. Corleto has remained famous for the bloody battle took place between Faenza and Forli about the familiar question of Castel Leone (Castrum Leonis) built by Forlivesi west of Prada. The contest lasted three years (1168-1171) and resumed in 1201 but, after various vicissitudes, victories and defeats, the winner turned out to Faenza and destroyed the castle in questione.Durante the bloody battles, the bell tower of the parish church was distrutto.Anche Corleto had the its castle (Castrum Corleti or Corileti) that Faentini fortified in 1217; after that date, however, if they had more news. The road immediately begins to climb with an average gradient of 3.7%, we pass the church of Castiglione, go straight until the junction at 7.85 km turn right and continue up until 9 km.Andiamo right, the road is unpaved , fast and downhill for about 1 km, keep right at the bottom, still a dirt road, but this time uphill for about 800 m. At the fork in top of the hill turn left and follow the dirt road until the beginning of the asphalt. We traveled about 12.2 km from the start and we attack the toughest downhill path "the snake", not so much for the slope of 9%, but for the succession of hairpin bends to deal with an air of motorcycling. Now we relax the long descent that takes us to the village of Castrocaro Terme.Poco first in the country, begins at km 16.5 on the left, the hardest climb of the whole route "the vineyard", not too long 1.5 km, but with a slope of 8.2% and a fund ruined by the continuous passage of tractors. At the top keep to the right on a dirt road off Strabello with views of the Rock of Poggiolo. Long last !!!! DEL FORTE POGGIOLO its origins mingle and intertwine with those of the Fortress of Castrocaro, which was probably a lookout tower. The earliest documents date back to 906 years in which it is mentioned that "the castle of Count Berengar Montepoggiolo." In the following centuries is under control of the most powerful families in the place, including the Proud, the Ordelaffi, Pagani and Manfredi. Was annexed to the republic of Florence in 1403 along with the castle of Castrocaro. Because of its location, dominant over all the plain of Romagna and the ends of the Tuscan Romagna, in 1471 it was decided the extension and reinforcement, entrusting the project to the architect Giuliano da Majano. E 'in this age that the fortress takes the current structure plan romboidale.Con the construction of the new city fortress of Terra del Sole, the fortress of Montepoggiolo becomes lookout of the latter town, so that the order for disarmament that struck the fortress of Castrocaro in 1676 did not apply to Montepoggiolo.Quando in 1772 Pietro Leopoldo of Lorraine decides the disarmament of Terra del Sole, same fate also Montepoggiolo which in 1782 was sold to private individuals. The first owner was Don Bagio Magli. Edward Warren describes it thus in 1748: the top of a mountain that is reasonably high in the north-east wind from the Sun to Earth about a mile away, there is an old castle that serves as a discovery of this fortress, which, being in plain can not find of lontano.Questo Castle is sometimes called Monte Falcone di Romagna, but it is now known that under the name of Monte Poggiolo. This place betrays all the plain of Romagna by papal Faenza to Ravenna and the Adriatic, so that it is not possible to pass between Earth and the Sun this sea floor any considerable body without being warned. Plant and elevation of this castle here united, and that is a kind of losangio the corners of which there are four towers, one of which is much greater dell'altre, they give a reasonable idea, there reigns around a ditch covered very wide and this place is covered with an 'insult. To date, private property, and in a state of advanced decay, for years has been waiting for a project to restore. The fort, located on the dome-shaped relief of Monte Poggiolo, dominates the south-eastern part of the Po Valley from near Forlì to the Adriatic. To the east overlooking the river Montone and west of the hills towards the faentino.Data its strategic importance, the fortress was also long contended: in 1179 the Ghibellines Romagnoli occupied and destroyed, but six years later, it was rebuilt by Castrocaresi, which were forced to hand it over to the Municipality of Forlì. From 1234 to 1317 the Florentines held it until the arrival of Ordelaffi which, in turn, were forced to hand it over to the Holy See, which returned it to Castrocaresi who fortified, but, despite this, the occupied Francesco Manfredi. In 1371, the fort came under the dominion of the Holy See and, later, recaptured by the family Ordelaffi which, however, was forced to return it to the Holy See. For cent.'anni the Florentines and Forlivesi fought the fortress, until in 1482 it was rebuilt by Giuliano da Majano. At the end of 1500, the fortress lost its importance after the construction of the fortress of Terra del Sole, equipped with artillery. In April 1951 a meteorite caused the collapse of a bastion of the ancient castle of Monte Poggiolo. About thirty years ago it was bought by the Bolognese architect Luigi Rocca Vignoli, who attempted to start the restoration, but the project was respinto.Superiamo the Rocca and keep following the road becomes paved little further, arrived at the plan we hold the left to fall at the first intersection encountered. It only remains to retrace the route of going to get to the Pieve di Corleto.
Variants:
critical points: the descent "snake" 7 back elbow on asphalt; the climb "vineyard" not too long 1,5 km, but with a slope of 8.2% with a gravel surface, impossible in the wet.
