Salita su asfalto (fino 1200 m di quota), salita sterrata, salita ripida, bici sulle spalle (gli ultimi 100 m di dislivello), discesa tecnica, discesa veloce e filante ed un ambiente selvaggio che sembra sia stato dimenticato dall'uomo. Questo è ciò che si incontra percorrendo l'itinerario della Bocchetta di Chiaro (Chair), la quale mette in comunicazione l'estrema punta settentrionale del Lago di Como (Gera Lario) con la Valchiavenna (Samolaco).
Trovandosi sulla spartiacque che congiunge il Monte Berlinghera al Sasso Canale, il panorama che si gode dalla bocchetta è fenomenale: verso sud il Lago di Como fin oltre il punto di separazione dei due rami, verso nord la Valchiavenna.
Mentre la salita dal lato lariano avviene in ambiente "domestico", la discesa affronta il ripido versante che conduce al fondo della Val Casenda, dove sarà necessario guadare il torrente per raggiungere dopo una breve risalita l'abitato di Paiedo. La discesa dalla Bocchetta di Chiaro fino a Paiedo presenta delle sezioni tecniche ed alcuni tratti dove i rododendri stanno avendo la meglio sul sentiero, ma l'ambiente è talmente particolare e selvaggio che vale la pena affrontare qualche disagio (chi ama le discese un po' impegnative ed avventurose arriverà con un sorriso a 32 denti). Una volta giunti a Paiedo la musica cambia radicalmente: il sentiero che conduce al fondovalle, recentemente pulito e ripristinato, è diventato un inno al flow e permette una guida veloce e divertente.
NOTA: la traccia GPS potrebbe presentare delle imprecisioni dovute al fatto che il sentiero di discesa è quasi totalmente nel bosco e spesso incassato. L'itinerario è comunque piuttosto obbligato, quindi non ci dovrebbero essere grossi problemi di orientamento.
NOTA 2: la traccia GPS è errata nella prima parte di discesa dopo l'abitato di Paiedo. O meglio, segue un sentiero piuttosto sporco e solamente più in basso confluisce nella strada asfaltata e, poco dopo, in quello ripulito. Il sentiero "giusto" parte in prossimità del cimitero ed a quanto ci hanno detto lo si individua facilmente (se è come più sotto è molto evidente e ben segnalato).
Piccolo aggiornamento su come individuare la partenza del sentiero "giusto" a Paiedo:
si scende fino alla chiesa e lasciandosela sulla sx si prosegue per una cinquantina di metri. Giunti ad una piccola radura erbosa si svolta a sx di 90° imboccando una strada sterrata. Si oltrepassa il ruscello, e poco prima di giungere al cimitero abbandonato (niente più che quattro muri nel bosco) si trova sulla dx le partenza del sentiero (bandierine di segnalazione su dei massi). Il sentiero incrocia la strada asfaltata in due o tre punti, ma la prosecuzione si trova sempre facilmente.

Ascent on asphalt (up to 1200 m above sea level), climb dirt, steep climb, bike on the shoulders (the last 100 m in altitude), technical descent, downhill fast and flowing and a wild environment that seems to have been forgotten by man. This is what you encounter along the route of the nozzle Light (Chair), which connects the extreme northern tip of Lake Como (Gera Lario) with the Chiavenna (Samolaco).
Lying on watershed connects the Monte Berlinghera Sasso Canale, the panorama from the nozzle is phenomenal due south to Lake Como to beyond the point of separation of the two branches, north Valchiavenna.
While the uphill side lariano occurs in 'domestic' environment, the descent faces the steep slope that leads to the bottom of the Val Casenda, where you will have to ford the creek after a short climb to reach the village of Paiedo. The descent from the nozzle to Chiaro Paiedo has some technical sections and some sections where the rhododendrons are having the better of the path, but the environment is so particular and wild that are worth addressing some discomfort (who loves downhill a bit ' challenging and adventurous will come with a 32-tooth smile). Once in Paiedo the music changes radically: the path that leads to the valley floor, newly cleaned and restored, became a hymn to the flow and allows a quick and fun.
NOTE: The GPS track may submit inaccuracies due to the fact that the glide path is almost entirely in the woods and frequently cashed. The itinerary is still rather forced, then there should be no major problems with orientation.
NOTE 2: GPS tracking is wrong in the first part of the descent after the village of Paiedo. Or rather, it follows a path rather dirty and only below flows into the road, and soon after, in that cleaned up. The path "right" side in the vicinity of the cemetery and as we were told it is hard to miss (if it is like below is very clear and well signposted).
Small update on how to locate the start of the path " right "to Paiedo:
you go down to the church and lasciandosela on the left continue for about fifty yards. When you come to a small grassy clearing, turn left 90 ° onto a dirt road. Cross the stream, and just before reaching the abandoned cemetery (no more than the four walls in the woods) is located on the right the start of the path (signal flags on the rocks). The trail crosses the road in two or three points, but the prosecution is always easy.
