Die "Alte Ponalestrasse" - der Traum jedes Gardasee-Bikers - ist seit August 2004 nach mehrjähriger Sperrung und Renovierung wieder für Wanderer und Radler geöffnet! Einst von den Österreichern im Jahre 1865 in die senkrechten Felswände gesprengt kann sich kein Biker oder Wanderer der Faszination dieser einzigartigen Verbindung zum Ledrotal und nach Pregasina entziehen. Gleich zu Anfang geht es durch einen riesigen Felstunnel und was dann folgt lässt sich kaum beschreiben - man muss es einfach mal gefahren sein: fast senkrecht über dem azurblauen See erheben sich die gewaltigen Felswände des Corno und man fährt mit nur mässiger Steigung durch Galerien und Tunnels - immer den Lago tief unter sich im Blick und wagt kaum durchzuatmen so unwirklich und grandios sind manche Ausblicke - teils auch an abenteuerlich tiefen Abgründen vorbei - und nicht immer sind da Absperrungen oder Leitplanken . . . Nach der Hälfte der Strecke, also etwa 250 Hm kommt die Wegkreuzung, rechts die häufig auf Photos zu sehenden Serpentinen hinauf ins Ledrotal - wir halten uns links und sind nach weiteren 250 Hm in Pregasina, einem wie ein Schwalbennest in einer Bergflanke hoch oben über dem See klebenden Dörfchen. Weiter gehts nach gemütlicher Rast auf dem Weg 422 teils ordentlich hoch auf Schotter, an steileren Stellen auch Beton/Teer vorbei am Malga Palaer zum Passo Rochetta (1159m). Hier stockt jedem Biker schier der Atem, so gigantisch ist der Ausblick. Wer will kann jetzt einfach wieder zurück fahren - so erlebt er alles gleich noch einmal. Diese Tour geht aber weiter zum Passo Guil (1208)und hier muss man sich nochmal entscheiden: einmal den direkten Weg über Malga Vil Nr 421 nach Molina am Ledrosee, anfangs zerfurchter Almweg, später sehr holpriger aber auch steiler Schotterweg bis zur Verbindungsstrasse. Hier ist Technik Stufe 4 gefragt! Sehr viel gemütlicher ist die Alternativ-Route auf breiten Forstwegen um den Cima Vil und an Rinas vorbei - man kommt direkt in Molina am Ledrosee raus. Rückweg jeweils für beide Alternativen einige Km über die Ledrotal-Strasse bis zum Tunnel nach Riva, direkt davor rechts abbiegen und man schraubt sich über viele photogene Serpentinen runter zur Ponalestrasse und weiter bis Riva. Eine Traumtour mit allen Superlativen !!

The "Old Ponale" - the dream of every Garda Bikers - has been open since August 2004 after several years of closure and renovation again for hikers and cyclists! Once blown up into the vertical rock walls by the Austrians in 1865, no bikers or hikers can escape the fascination of this unique connection to the Ledro Valley and to Pregasina. Right at the beginning, it goes through a huge rock tunnel and then what follows can hardly describe - you just have to be driven times: almost vertically above the azure lake rise the massive rock walls of the Corno and you drive with only moderate slope through galleries and tunnels - always the Lago deep dares among themselves in view and hardly breathe so unreal and amazing are some views - partly also to adventurous deep precipices over - and not always are there barriers or guardrails. . . Halfway through the journey that is about 250 Hm the crossroads, right often to be seen on photos hairpin bends up into the Valle di Ledro - we keep left and after a further 250 Hm in Pregasina, one like a swallow in a mountainside high above the Lake adhesive village. Next we go to a cozy break at the way some 422 extremely high on gravel, on steeper parts also concrete / tar past the Malga Palaer to Passo Rocchetta (1159m). Here, every Biker increased almost breath, so huge is the view. Anyone who wants to can now easily go back again - as he experiences all the same again. This tour, however, continues to Passo Guil (1208) and here again you have to decide: once the direct route via Malga Vil # 421 Molina above the Lake, initially ridged mountain path, later very bumpy but also a steep gravel road to the junction. This technique level 4 is needed! Very much cozier is the alternative route passing on wide forest trails around the Cima Vil and at Rinas - to get directly into the Lake Molina out. Turn back each for both alternatives a few kms on the Ledro Valley-road to the tunnel to Riva, right in front of it and you screwed over many photogenic switchbacks down to Ponale and continue to Riva. A dream tour with all the superlatives !!
