Trail Description

Ulteriori informazioni a.

More information.
The Monte Verena, along with its strong military, represented a strategic place in the First World War: it was from here that May 24, 1915, the Italian army fired the first cannon shot, opening in fact hostilities with the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The particularity of this peak is well described by the nickname that was given to the fortification, the "Vanquisher of the Plateau": the top, isolated over two thousand meters, In fact, a great vantage point over the whole area, which was the opposite, from Folgaria Asiago, from Pasubio Ortigara.
The tour takes place almost entirely on the wide dirt roads that run through the military origin ' Plateau: mule from the slopes constant and ever higher, however, characterized by a stony bottom at times bumpy and irregular.
It starts from Spillek Lake, just north of Roanoke, and will initially run through the scenic wooded bridleways up to meadows summit of Mount Erio, then down to engage on the classic ascent route to Verena; the rise is smooth and steady, and it becomes easier in the second half after passing Casera Verena.
In a final series of switchbacks allow you to get to the summit of Monte Verena, occupied by the ruins of the fort, which was destroyed less than a month after the start of the war. From up here the view is exceptional and running in every direction, from the south throughout the Asiago Plateau to the north where the view sweeps over Lagorai and the Dolomites.
The subsequent descent, on the path from the shelter Verena cuts the steep slope of the ski slopes, is quite insidious to the refuge Verenetta.
