Il Bosco di Ficuzza conserva ancora una ingente porzione di "bosco naturale" e nel complesso rappresenta uno dei boschi piu' belli di Sicilia e sicuramente il piu' vasto della Sicilia occidentale; e' in questo ambito che si sono conservati inoltre habitat privilegiati sia per la flora sia per la fauna: nel regno dell'aquila reale continuano a vegetare piante endemiche rupestri di particolare rilevanza botanica. Inoltre qui e' presente l'80% delle specie animali, tra uccelli e fauna selvatica, dell'intera regione. Con D.A. 970/91 ed in seguito alle disposizioni della L.R. 98/81 e L.R. 14/88 è stata istituita la Riserva Naturale Orientata che comprende oltre al bosco di Ficuzza, il massiccio di Rocca Busambra, il bosco del Cappelliere e l'area di Gorgo del Drago. La gestione è stata affidata all' Azienda Regionale Foreste Demaniali ed il regolamento è stato approvato il 26/07/2000.

The Forest of Ficuzza still retains a large portion of "natural forest" and the whole forest is one of the most 'beautiful Sicily and certainly the most' vast western Sicily; and 'in this area that have been preserved also privileged habitat for both flora and for fauna: the kingdom of the golden eagle continues to grow plants endemic cave of particular botanical importance. Also here and 'present 80% of animal species, including birds and wildlife in the region. With d.Ä. 970/91 and following the provisions of L.R. 98/81 and L.R. 14/88 was established Nature Reserve that includes not only the Ficuzza wood, the massive Rocca Busambra, the forest Cappelliere and the area of ??Gorgo del Drago. The management was entrusted to 'Azienda Regionale State Forests and the regulation was approved on 26/07/2000.
