Desde la carretera general que sube al Roque de los Muchachos, junto al cruce del Pico de la Nieve, se sube por éste la pista que llega hasta el mirador. Se desciende y de nuevo en el cruce se toma la carretera en ascenso unos 600 metros hasta llegar a una pista forestal a la derecha por la que se desciende a lo largo de casi 20 km, TODO en descenso. A partir del inicio del descenso el paisaje pierde protagonismo ya que la pista transcurre por pinar y mas abajo por monte bajo. Lo único a destacar es el Refugio de Puntallana, que se encuentra a pocos minutos de iniciar el descenso. Y se destaca porque es lo único que hay diferente en lo que queda de trayecto, no porque tenga nada de especial, ni mucho menos. Casi a los 20 km de descender hay que tomar un desvío a la derecha que nos lleva al sendero SL PL 20, que llega directamente a la carretera general.
