Bellissima escursione semi invernale.
Primo tratto di 15 Km circa di asfalto
, si imbocca la sterrata a sinistra sulle pendici del monte San Franco,
Sulla sella panorama mozzafiato sul lago di Campotosto e Monti della Laga.
Si scende fino al Rifugio
per poi entrare nel bosco per un sentiero poco visibile ( senza GPS è facile perdersi ). Si scende rapidamente fino ad una radura con tronchi abbattuti dalle slavine invernali, anche qui seguire il sentiero è difficoltoso. Si procede con sali scendi
poco piacevoli per il fondo mosso dalle frequenti zone fangose. Si giunge finalmente in val Chiarino dove si prende sulla sinistra la carrareccia che scende costeggiando il fiume fino alla diga.
