In Pettenasco gegenüber der Q8-Tankstelle die Hauptstrasse Richtung Osten (der See abgewandten Seite) verlassen und kurz darauf rechts in das Val del Pescone abzweigen. Nach Durchfahrung der großen Bögen der Eisenbahnbrücke wird die Teerstraße bald zu einem Forstweg und es geht 200 Hm steil bergauf, wobei der Weg an einigen Stellen sehr ausgewaschen ist. Allerdings lassen die (Kanal?-)Arbeiten (im Sommer 2010) darauf schließen, dass da bald einiges wieder hergerichtet sein wird, Man erreicht Armeno und es geht auf der gut ausgeschilderten Fahrstraße bis hinauf zum Mottarone. Am Wochenende wähnt man sich auf einer Motorrad-Rennstrecke, ansonsten ist die Straße recht wenig befahren. Oben angelangt, lohnt der kurze Aufstieg zum Gipfel mit 360° Panorama ins Gebirge (Monte Rosa, Aletschhorn, Jungfrau, ,…), auf die sieben Seen (Lago d’Orta, Lago Maggiore, Lago Varese, Lago di Monate, Lago di Comabbio, Lago di Mergozzo, Lago di Biandronno) und in die Po-Ebene im Süden. Eine weitere Attraktion für Jung und Alt ist die luftig gebaute, fast an eine Achterbahn erinnernde Sommerrodelbahn, deren Ein-/Ausstieg sich oben, kurz unterhalb des Gipfels befindet Nach dem Gipfel-Ausflug zu Fuß (nicht im GPS-Track enthalten) vollendet man die Gipfel-Umrundung mit dem Rad und fährt zunächst auf der Anfahrts-Strecke wieder ab. Auf ca. 1080m Höhe geht in einer Rechtskehre links ein Forstweg ab. Dieser führt zunächst in ein paar steilen Kehren bergab, dann folgen kurze Gegenanstiege und es geht an der Flanke des Monte del Falo bis nach Coiromonte, Von da rollt man auf Teersträßchen ab - teils in schönen Kehren - bis man in Armeno wieder den Anfahrtsweg tangiert. Es geht weiter bergab nach Cargegna, wo man von der Straße nach rechts in eine enge Gasse abbiegt, die sich malerisch durch die Häuschen schlängelt und schließlich zu einem Forstweg (Via Pettenasco) wird. Bald zweigt die Route links ab auf einen kurzen Trail - wenn man den übersieht, landet man in einer Sackgasse. Der Trail wird wieder zum Karrenweg und mündet im Val del Pescone nahe der Eisenbahnbrücke auf den Anfahrtsweg, auf dem man in wenigen hundert Metern den Startpunkt in Pettenasco erreicht.
