Il giro nasce dall'idea di estendere le nostre "scorribande" ciclistiche impiegando il treno per il rientro. Foligno come nodo ferroviario consente molte opzioni in tal senso e questo e' un primo tentativo per concretizzare quest'idea. La partenza e' da Foligno nei pressi della stazione ferroviaria dove si rientrera' a fine corsa. Il tour percorre a mezza costa la valle umbra sud seguendo al 90% il tracciato della via Francigena di San Francesco che collega La Verna a Roma. Di grande aiuto per seguire il percorso sono appunto i cartelli e segnali giallo azzurro della via Francigena che ci accompagneranno da Scandolaro, localita' sopra Foligno, a Trevi per poi proseguire verso Campello Alto, Lenano, il castello di Poreta ed infine a Bazzano superiore. Da qui abbandoniamo il sentiero francescano e ci dirigiamo verso Forca di Cerro valico per accedere alla Valnerina. Fino a questo punto il paesaggio e' dominato dagli oliveti e dalla campagna con brevi tratti in bosco di faggi. La salita a Forca di Cerro e' piacevole e non impegnativa e ci portera' alla spettacolare valle del fiume Nera. La vallata del Nera si presenta completamente diversa da quanto incontrato fino al valico e la discesa al fondo valle e' lungo il tracciato della ex ferrovia della Spoleto-Norcia. Il tracciato in questo tratto e' parte in galleria e quindi indispensabili sono i faretti.
Lungo la discesa si apprezzerano viste dall'alto dei piccoli centri medievali di Vallo di Nera, Sant'Anatolia di Narco, Scheggino piccole perle lungo il filo del fiume Nera.
Si arriva al fondo valle a Sant'Anatolia e da qui si prende il tracciato in sterrato che ci portera' fino alle cascate delle Marmore attraversando i centri di Scheggino, Ceselli, Ferentillo e Arrone tutti degni di visita per chi non li conosce. Il percorso costeggia a sinistra il fiume Nera ed e' quasi sempre in piano in leggera discesa con soli brevi tratti in salita. Spettacolari alcuni passaggi sotto pareti di roccia ed il fiume a fianco del nostro trail.
Arrivati a Marmore si gode della vista delle famose cascate, se coincide l'orario di apertura delle acque con il vostro passaggio. Il giro e' ormai concluso da Marmore si arriva a Terni lungo la trafficata statale. Arrivo a Terni lungo viale Brin e da qui alla stazione ferroviaria.
Il percorso ha un tracciato semplice, mai impegnativo per salita ed ha un dislivello complessivo 1.700m, ma e' piuttosto lungo circa 82km. Tirando un po' si puo' percorrerlo anche in poco più di 5ore ma prendetevi tempo e soffermatevi ad ammirare il paesaggio e scattare qualche foto.

E percorribile tutto l'anno, anche nei mesi estivi piu' caldi essendo per lo più in ombra e muovendosi nella frescura del fiume nel tratto finale. Numerosi i punti per il rifornimento d'acqua e per mangiare a Sant'Anatolia, Scheggino e gli altri centri le tentazioni sono moltissime

The tour is the brainchild of extending our "raids" cycling using the train for the return. Foligno railway junction allows as many options in this regard and this is' a first attempt to implement this idea. The departure 'from Foligno near the train station where you will fall' at the end of the race. The tour runs halfway up the Umbrian valley south along 90% of the route of the Via Francigena connecting San Francesco La Verna in Rome. Of great help to follow the route exactly are the signs and signals yellow blue of the Via Francigena that will accompany us from Scandolaro, location 'above Foligno, Trevi and on to Campello Alto, Lenano, the castle of Poreta and finally Bazzano higher. From here we leave the Franciscan path and head to the Forca di Cerro pass to access the Nera Valley. Up to this point the landscape and 'dominated by olive groves and countryside with short sections in beech forest. The climb to the Forca di Cerro and 'enjoyable and challenging and will take us' to the spectacular valley of the Black River. The valley of the Nera is completely different from what is encountered up to the pass and descent to the valley floor and 'along the route of the former railway of Spoleto-Norcia. The track in this stretch and 'part in the gallery and are thus essential spotlights.
On the way down you will appreciate views from the top of the small medieval towns of Vallo di Nera, Sant'Anatolia di Narco, Scheggino small beads along the wire of the Black River.
It gets to the bottom of the valley to Sant'Anatolia and from here take the track in dirt road that will take us' up to the waterfalls Marmore crossing the centers of Scheggino, Chisels, Ferentillo and Arrochar all worthy to visit for those who do not know them. The path runs along the Black River and on the left and 'almost always flat, slightly downhill with only a short uphill sections. Spectacular few steps below the rock walls and the river at the side of our trail.
Once in Marmore enjoy views of the famous waterfalls, if it matches the opening hours of the waters with your transition. The round and 'now completed by Marmore you get to Terni along the busy highway. Arrival in Terni long driveway Brin and from there to the train station.
The path has a simple path, never difficult to climb and has a total elevation gain 1.700m, but it 's quite long about 82km. Pulling a little 'you can' even tour in just over 5 hours but take time to dwell and enjoy the scenery and take some pictures.
