Trail Description

After a few hundred meters from the junction on the SS120 you reach the gate of the State Property at 890 m above sea level and continues on to the dirt road to the right slightly uphill always following the course of the river Flascio. After about 6 km you reach the Forest Barracks Zarbata at 1100 m altitude and heading left towards the road that initially present in downhill. Overcoming small fords and short tear in alternating flat stretches uphill climb to altitude to the right of Flascio, until you reach a fork in the road beneath Mount S.Antonino and continue to the right on the dirt road to the lower slope. In this area you will surely find many cattle grazing and before we reach a fountain. still some snags uphill and down steep hills "technique" made difficult by the fund sometimes slippery and treacherous. Still some tears uphill and reach the farms on the outskirts of the village of Floresta that we will reach an asphalt road a couple of miles. We are at 1250 m altitude and at the junction at the town, where there is a fountain of fresh water, you can continue on the SS 116 in the direction Portella Mitta that we reach after about a mile. At the junction turn left and follow the signs that indicate Portella Park Male Died. After driving a few miles and after he finally entered the thick forest, in the village Portella Frascianelle find a picnic area with tables and benches that seems made for refreshment, and after traveling about 20 km we can afford it. After a well-deserved break we continue on the paved road past Portella Castagnera and falling rapidly on the paved road until you reach the Passo di Busica (at Case Filippelli) and we continue to Portella Dagara in the direction of a wetland highlighted by a thicket of poplars. At the next junction turn left and the road begins the last tough climb and we find the last fountain before Lake Trearie. At the next junction you encounter, turn left again and reach the 1430 m of Portella Dagara. From here you can enjoy a wonderful panorama that sweeps from the Rocche del Crasto westward to the hills overlooking the valley of Tortorici until you see (fog permitting) the Aeolian Islands. Turning left we reach the ups and downs in Portella Church at 1459 m altitude, which opens on the view of Lake Trearie. Here you can stop for a rest or even along the entire circumnavigation of the lake. On the way back you can choose two ways: first, more challenging encounters before a fountain and then goes up to exceed the proportion of the 1,609 m Mount Trearie through the dense vegetation and then down over the Masseria Trearie to the gate of the State Property from which we started. However, if we are satisfied we continue to climb toward the southern shore of the lake and follow the road in first downs, but then decided to go down the houses of the Masseria Trearie, giving us even a beautiful view of the valleys below Simeto, the Flascio and Saracen. We also find two other fountains and another at Masseria Trearie that we reach after overtaking an iron gate with scavalcatoio. From here we go again but this time on asphalt turning up the hill to the left of the fork after Masseria, and finally decided descending through lush vegetation and curated by the forest until you reach the gate from which we departed after having cycled for 45 km.
