Trail Description


Giro cicloescursionistico al confine tra Italia e Svizzera, che prevede diverso tempo con bici a spinta, un notevole sviluppo chilometrico e si conclude con bella discesa tecnica verso valle.

Da Bellinzona 229slm si pedala in direzione di Giubiasco, dove si imbocca la strada cantonale della val Morobbia, che con diverse rampe impegnative raggiunge il paese di Carena 962slm.
Da Carena la strada, prima sterrata e poi di nuovo asfaltata, ma chiusa al traffico, ci porta senza strappi significativi all’Alpe Giumello 1595slm. Superato il Giumello si segue una carrareccia che sempre ciclabile ci porta ad un secondo alpeggio, Piano delle Pecore 1787slm.

Da questo punto il sentiero non è più ciclabile e inizia una lunga camminata sul sentiero a tratti esposto, che dopo due scollinamenti raggiunge il Passo Verta 1925slm, confine con l’Italia.

Dal passo si torna finalmente in sella e dopo una serie di tornanti in veloce discesa, nei pressi del rifugio Sommafiume 1763slm, si prosegue mantenendosi in quota lungo l’antica via del ferro, che dopo 5km pedalabili e divertenti raggiunge il rifugio Giovo 1708slm.
Si riprende a salire su una strada prima sterrata e poi cementata che in breve ci porta al rifugio S. Jorio 1980slm e relativo Passo San Jorio 2010slm.

Dal passo, dopo l’eventuale sosta al rifugio, si torna a camminare lungo un sentiero roccioso ed esposto sulla val Morobbia, che obbliga ad affrontare alcuni ostacoli con bici in spalla, ma paesaggisticamente molto appagante.

Raggiunta una costruzione per le telecomunicazioni 2000slm inizia la discesa verso valle. Il tracciato è inizialmente su una carrareccia in pessime condizioni che ci porta fino alla Capanna Gesero 1760slm. Dal rifugio, dopo poche curve su asfalto, si devia per l’Alpe della Costa 1620slm, dove inizia una lunghissima discesa in singletrack nel bosco, che per quasi 1000metri, dapprima molto scorrevoli, poi più tecnici, poi molto tecnici ci porteranno fino a valle.
Raggiunte le prime case alte di Artore 850slm la traccia segue un ciottolato spacca braccia, che velocemente ci riporta a Bellinzona.

Itinerario fisicamente impegnativo e mai banale in discesa. Acqua presente costantemente lungo il percorso e rifugio San Jorio sempre aperto. Per chi fosse interessato solo al singletrack adrenalinico, è possibile raggiungere l’Alpe della Costa salendo da Arbedo, su una stradina asfaltata ma chiusa al traffico.
