Trail Description

Departure from & nbsp; Riale in Pomatt just above the Toce waterfall from about & nbsp; 1700 m of altitude. & Nbsp; It begins with the ascent to the Passo San Giacomo taking share straight, the road is wide enough beat and you can climb safely on a regular basis. From the beautiful back, supported by dry stone walls (parapet), admires the plain of Riale, the lake of Morasco and the road traveled so far. We continue to climb without difficulty, until you get to see the refuge M.Luisa in front of us and l & rsquo; highest dam of the artificial lake Toggia. We meet on the right fork for Lake Kastel which I highly recommend you visit; can be reached within minutes by following the road uphill, slightly tougher than that faced so far. M.Luisa reached the refuge, we continue along the lake Toggia (2240 ??m) and in a little over 3 km, on a beautiful road, we reach the border at Passo San Giacomo (2313 m), characterized by the barracks of the Guardia di Finanza, now into desuetude, and a stone that indicates the actual border. Leaving a small pond on the right will take you to a group of houses and the church of San Giacomo. At this point we can choose which type of route to follow. We choose to point to the Gries, the alternative is to go down to the ribbon of asphalt that leads to Passo della Novena (Nufenen), go up it and then reach the Gries. Then go down the path carved to the left of the church of San Giacomo and after a source that we encounter in downhill, continue straight on the hillside. We overcome the indication for the Alpe San Giacomo going straight. The narrow path is not always pedaled and in some places you should be careful; after some passage with Pushing (or shoulder if you prefer), we arrive at the hut Horn (2340 m) undergoing renovation and expansion at the time of the survey. Pushing a little 'bike you come to the step of the Horn (2500 m). In front of us the Gries glacier at whose feet you can see the beautiful lake. One scenario that really takes your breath away. On the left, along the trail in a few minutes reach the Passo Gries (2479 m), accompanies a glacial lake. Arrived at the lake Gries follow the path on the left, in some places not to pedal, that will take us to the plain of Bettelmatt (named after the famous cheese) from where you can see the background lake of Morasco. I highly recommend effetture walk a good part of the narrow path that leads down to the plain; there are many rocks and present with a landscape so not really worth it to take risks. Soon the fun will be assured. As we push our bikes alongside us a marmot, less than one meter. He looks at us curiously, would want to caress her. Really beautiful. After passing the stretch & quot; dangerous & quot; start a beautiful descent that will lead us in the short dam Morasco. Four other marmots crossing the road while transiting downhill. Along the lake we come to the dam and returning to the paved road down towards Riale.
