Trail Description

Taken from here ...:
The idea of ??doing this ride was spinning a bit 'of time in my head but for various reasons have not been able to fulfill it ... or because the area is a bit 'far away, either because they reach altitudes high enough (1800mt.) Look also to the absence of people interested in a healthy masochism that often involves mtb.
The premise is that in July of last year I organized a 2 days . on Simbruini thanks to the help of Matthew who introduced me to a lot of fun down in the area that connects the Field Staff and Rifugio del Ceraso to Fiumata along the headwaters of the River Aniene and near Filey. On that occasion, with Crips there we really enjoyed it ... but we were quite a bit 'cooked for several miles behind and the heat immediately. Sandrello, Tuot and another guy is not the forum (really loud!) Have traveled the day after us and they told me but that was a nice downhill which according to them was worth the many miles. away from Filey to reach Rome.
This time the big Toty as usual has not pulled back and then we tried to go around ... while Matthew and Cristiano unfortunately could not join (... Mattè that you possino ... next time you come to pià at home).
The tour plans to leave the car Fiumata (below the town of Filey), take these, about 15km. Rise of uninterrupted asphalt to Field Staff, and from there descend by jeep up to Fiumata on a path first on the slopes, then ski on the bottom and then on a technical trail and fun (at least for my taste). The final stretch is always all downhill, on a steep trail is not that then it becomes a dirt road (double leaves) next to the course of the River. At the end there is a paved road still enjoyable, fast and no traffic.
Fiumata Since then we hopped in Filey (where willing, at fixed hours, you can take the bus to go to Field Staff loading the bike ), we took a coffee and, given that the bus had just left L, we decided to ride up to Field Staff. The traffic warden who saw us climb ragguardato us about the presence of snow, but 20cm. declared we were not scared (her amazement, however, made me think ... maybe will have reason ?????).
The climb is long but never with slopes exaggerated ... if you are in the company is very nice and sunny. From 1500 we found snow on the sides of the road ... but it did not bother us.
Arriving at the base of the plant (altitude about 1800 and then about 900m. Altitude) had to start our descent on the lower part of the ski slopes (downhill). Unfortunately, the climb is not very high, the snow fall (over 30cm.) And the consistency of the same (wet and icy well) forced us to whether a makeshift snowshoes that we soon made his feet like an aquarium tropical ... not. ... deppppiù ... Arctic!
The location - in the initial part - I had not known, the GPS track I had and the trail map printed in the office was partially discolored with the sweat of my pocket ... obviously the path was not very clear because of the snow ... so some "gift" came to me thanks to the GPS even if we could make a navigation to the correct direction. A couple of "ciaspolari" There have also helped in finding the right path and then take the cross-country trail that having low gradients has turned into a beautiful walk in the woods ... in the snow. show only although we were hoping to do cycling and walking!
After a few km. Walk walk we took the gps track in July 2008 and start the descent path of true ... with leaves and rocks loosened and smooth ... with brakes that do not brake a chip as wet (whistling that was a beauty) ... but after a nice warmed us prepare the technical stretch now without snow but with many leaves.
The course is very funny ... if you can handle to close all the steps (turns and steps) although some nose press is almost essential to be able to do so without "penalty" typical of the trial.
The presence of leaves and stepped conceals the real bottom of the path and we have made our contribution attribuendoci a nice nose press to 360 ° per capita! (Crips. On this occasion I was able to understand the usefulness of hydraulics at low speeds ... after that I adjusted better ... with some benefit).
After the beautiful stretch technician (whose difficulty is perhaps tell from the photos) we will cross the sources aniene and starts the fast section in the forest ... beautiful and the background noise of the water that makes you a lot to think about "Clorophilla" and the beautiful (and neighboring Abruzzo) ... ..

The final stretch, after the trout farms, is on the road and quickly reaches the car left near the road that goes up to Filey ... smearing inevitably with some nice smarronata of horses and cows!

So what about ... around me beautiful, made more arduous than expected due to the presence of snow that turned 200mt. of negative slope on a walk instead of a descent. The snow, however, participated in determining the "uniqueness" of the day which is only missing the sun to be able to be framed in the "best of 2009".
