Trail Description

This tour is the continuation of my previous Tour that had ended in Le Pont de Montvert. We are back-tracking (opposite direction) the path that famous Robert Louis Stevenson completed in 1879. The tour starts in Le Pont de Montvert and leads us up to the summit of the Mont Lozère, the highest mountain in the Cevennes. There is a fair amount of pushing and carrying up to the summit, from there it is purely cycling down. Technically easy and not a challenge to a trained VTT rider I tried to stay overnight in Chasseradès, but unfortunately the 3 places to stay (one Gite and two Hotels) were full, so I had to go down to La Bastide via the road, which is not as nice as doing the GR. I recommend to book a room prior to leaving. The summer season is very busy with hikers doing the official Stevenson trail (many accompanied by a donkey). I prefer to do the trip with my steel donkey, even if sometimes I have to carry it :-) From La Bastide de Puylaurent follow the GR to Notre Dame des Neiges.    From there this tour leaves the Stevenson Trail and it takes us through thrilling Ardèche and Cevennes scenic points and views down to Les Vans. Make sure someone picks you up there... Check out the video...
