Die Tour führt über gut befahrbare Wirtschafts- bzw. Deich-/Waldwege durch eine wunderschöne Landschaft und ist absolut familientauglich. Sie kann auch mit Trekkingbikes gefahren werden, die „Pfade“ über die Cornée du Der sind aber eher nur für MTB’s zu empfehlen. Die"Bocage" (Heckenlandschaft der Champagne) ist der feuchtere Teil der Champagne, deren großzügige Natur sich um den Lac du Der-Chantecoq erstreckt. Hier herrscht das Wasser über das Land... Der Lac du Der ist der größte künstlich angelegte See Europas. Im Herbst kann man das unvergessliche Schauspiel von 70000 Reihern auf ihrem Flug nach Süden erleben. Am Der kann man das ganze Jahr über etwa 270 Vogelarten in ihren jeweiligen Lebensräumen beobachten. Am spektakulärsten sind zweifellos die Graureiher, die auf ihren langen Stelzen herum stolzieren und alle Blicke auf sich ziehen. Von Oktober bis März legen fast 40000 dieser „Grauhaarigen Damen" eine Rast am See ein. Sie machen sich bei den ersten Kälteeinbrüchen im Norden auf und fliegen zum Überwintern bis nach Tunesien oder Südspanien in die Lagune von Gallocanta. Auf dem Rückweg ist ihre Pause am Der weniger lang als bei der Hinreise. Es ist ein außergewöhnliches Spektakel, die Graureiher zu beobachten, wenn sie gruppenweise von ihrem Schlafplatz wegfliegen und dabei die für sie typischen Schreie ausstoßen. Das Freilichtmuseum Musée du Pays du Der (in Sainte-Marie-du-Lac-Nuisement) ist eine äußerst gelungene Rekonstruktion eines Dorfes (mit nach der Flutung des Sees nachgebauten, typischen Gebäuden) und in jedem Fall einen Besuch wert. Die Wege auf der Cornée du Der sind herrlich trailig und machen auch Kindern (mit geeigneten MTB) viel Spass. Im Sommer sollte man die Badesachen einpacken und am herrlichen Strand im Nordosten der Cornée eine Badepause einlegen. Die angegebene Dauer der Tour entspricht der Fahrzeit eines Erwachsenen, mit zwei Kindern (9 und 6 Jahre) mit guter Grundkondition betrug die Fahrzeit 3:20 [h]. „Links“ erscheinen im Text unterstrichen in ockerfarbiger Schrift.
