This is a quite demanding tour in the mountain chain of Lousã. It follows the marked route 15 that crosses several schist villages (aldeias do xisto). To cool down there are a couple of river pools, notably the one in Fragas of São Simão and Ana Aviz. Another constant in the landscape are the wind power towers. I started in the village of Gondramaz which is about 14 km from Lousã, but one can start in any other village, namely in Ferraria de São João there is a support center for bicycles (toilets, bike washing and air pump). In Lousã I stayed at the new and modern Youth Hostel. It has nice double rooms and dorms have only four beds.
There are signposts in most of the track. However a few crucial ones are missing or they are too small to be seen when going in a fast descendent. Thus I recommend to take a map with the marked track or a GPS as I did. Several tracks can be downloaded from the site below.
