Escursione al luogo più celebrato e conosciuto del Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini. Partenza da Pian Grande di Castelluccio ed arrivo, percorrendo il sentiero per i Colli Alti e Bassi e Capanna Ghezzi, a Forca Viola in circa 2 ore. Dopo pochi ma intensi tornanti in discesa inizia un tecnico saliscendi per la morena di Quarto S.Lorenzo fino allo strappo finale per il Lago (1940 m.). Innumerevoli le leggende su questo luogo soprattutto legate alla magia e l'occulto che ebbero il massimo successo nel 1200. Secondo la più nota che da il nome al Lago, il corpo di Pilato partì da Roma su di un carro trainato da due buoi e dal più alto dei Monti Sibillini precipitò nelle acque del Lago che ribollirono. Il Lago di Pilato custodisce un piccolo crostaceo rosso (il Chirocefalo del Marchesoni) unico al mondo. La discesa per Foce è sempre impegnativa ma fattibile tranne nei 200 m. di dislivello delle Svolte. Superato questo punto cruciale si arriva facilmente a Foce e quindi ad Altino dove forse converrà ristorarsi presso il noto Rifugio. Excursion to the place most celebrated and known of the Sibillini National Park. Starting from Pian Grande of Castelluccio and arrival, along the path to the Hills, Bass and Treble Capanna Ghezzi, to Forca Viola in about 2 hours. After a few but intense bends downhill begins a technical ups and downs to Quarto San Lorenzo moraine until the final climb to the Lake (1940 m.). Many legends about this place especially related to magic and the occult who had the greatest success in 1200. According to the note from the name to the Lake, the body of Pilate left Rome on a chariot pulled by two oxen and the highest of Sibillini rushed into the waters of the lake that bubbled. Lake Pilate holds a small red crustacean (the Chirocefalo Marchesonii) unique in the world. The descent to Foce is always challenging but doable except in the 200 m. Turns of the height difference. Passed this crucial point is easy to get to Foce and then to Altino where perhaps agree refreshments at the famous Lodge.
