Trail Description


Aux confins de l’Orne et de la Mayenne, ce circuit suit le tout début du cours de Sélune, qui prend sa source aux 3 fontaines à Saint-Cyr-du-Bailleul.  Village de la pomme et de la poire, ses beaux paysages vallonnés sont restés de traditionnels bocages. Attention, le circuit est plutôt difficile, mais le beau patrimoine qui le jalonne vaut l’effort. Suivez bien le circuit et soyez sur vos gardes aux abords des grandes routes.0 - Départ place de l’église Saint-Cyr-Sainte-Juliette de Saint-Cyr-du-Bailleul, qui est très ancienne, construite entre le XIIe et le XIVe siècle. Et qui possède un beau mobilier du XIXe siècle. Autour de l’église, bel ensemble de constructions anciennes. 1 – Près d’ici, au milieu d'un champ, il y a un polissoire datant du néolithique, la Pierre Saint-Martin. Vous êtes également à proximité du hameau Géricault, berceau de la famille du célèbre peintre romantique (à moins d’1 km à gauche).2 - Vous longez le cours de la Sélune, fleuve côtier de 77 km qui prend sa source à Saint-Cyr-du-Bailleul, avant de se jeter dans la mer à la Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel. Le fleuve est particulièrement riche en saumons, truites, brochets, perches…3 - Vous passez à proximité du château du Bailleul, à 200 mètres à gauche. Ce beau manoir de style gothique flamboyant, est aujourd’hui une propriété privée. Il possède des parties des XVIe et XVIIe siècle.4 - Le circuit longe pendant 6 km l'ancienne voie ferrée Avranches–Domfront, aménagé maintenant en chemin de randonnée. Vous vous trouvez actuellement devant l'ancienne gare de Barenton. Ici vous pouvez  possibilité de raccourcir le circuit en passant à gauche par le Jarry.5 - A 700 m à gauche, vous pouvez visiter la Chapelle Notre-Dame de Bonsecours et du Saint prophète David au Jarry, qui  date de 1680. Elle a longtemps été un relais paroissial où l’on célébrait la messe chaque dimanche. Il y eut jusque 4 chapelles entre Le Jarry et Saint-Cyr.6 - Le Tertre Montécot délimite la Vallée de la Sélune. D’en haut, on profite de beaux panoramas entre Domfront et Mortain. Ce taillis, constitué essentiellement de gaules de châtaignier que les paysans venaient y chercher pour cercler les tonneaux.7 - A 300 m à gauche se trouve le château de la Motte, château, qui date du  XVIIIe siècle et est aujourd’hui une propriété privée.Points remarquables à proximité:Le Teilleul et ses nombreux châteaux dont le Château des Louvellières, qui date de 1658  et dont les bâtiments proviennent de l'ancienne abbaye de Savigny-le-Vieux. Nombreuses chapelles.Dolmen de la Roche à BarentonLa fosse Artour à Saint-Georges-du-Rouelley, avec un beau sentier, un site d’escalade et une légende épique.Manoirs, monuments religieux (église et chapelles) et rives de l’Egrenne à Saint-Mars-d'Egrenne et à Saint-Roch-sur-Egrenne, dans l’OrneSites des Romans de la table ronde, Passais-la Conception (Orne) qui permettent de retrouver les exploits fabuleux du Roi Arthur, qui régnait en Grande-Bretagne au VIe siècle, et de ses chevaliers. Parmi eux, Léonce de Payerne, dont le père, le roi Ban de Banoix, a vu le jour dans cette région, à la frontière de la Gaulle et de la Petite Bretagne . Musée de la pomme et de la poire, Barenton : présentation de cidre, jus, poiré, calvados et autres produits du terroir normand.
