…chi vive immerso nelle bellezze del territorio, finisce perdiventare cieco, per non vederle più. Quante volte durante le mie uscite in bici ci sono passato vicino senza maivederli, senza mai rendermene conto. Una sola cosa mi giustifica, non sono un botanico e a occhio non riesco avalutare gli anni che potrebbe avere un albero. Poi ho trovato un link:http://www.isaporidisicilia.com/alberimonumentali/indice2.htm E’ l’elenco per provincia degli alberi monumentali della Sicilia, stilatodall’azienda regionale foreste e demanio. Subito la curiosità di andare a vedere quali sono questi alberi nella mia zona.Con mio grande stupore scopro che sono tutti o quasi carrubi, una speciecomunissima da queste parti. Quante volte da piccolo mi sono arrampicato sui rami di questi alberi, giocatoall’ombra delle loro chiome senza mai chiedermi da quanto tempo fossero li,eppure mio padre prima di me e suo padre prima di lui avevano fatto la stessacosa. Così, approfittando della magnifica giornata (solo un po ventosa) che il mesedi Dicembre ci ha regalato, ho caricato i waypoint sul gps, inforcato la bici esono partito in direzione dei più vicini Matusalemme vegetali. In effetti guardando con occhio attento ti accorgi che ogni tanto ce n’è unopiù grosso e maestoso degli altri, sono gli esemplari che superano i 3-400anni. Ma addirittura avere il privilegio di andare vederne uno la cui età si misurain millenni e farlo senza bisogno di prendere la macchina, di averlo a portatadi bici, non lo avrei mai creduto. Un essere vivente di quasi 2000 anni! Il carrubo di contrada Favarotto (inrealtà la contrada si chiama favarotta, almeno nel dialetto locale). Lavorando di fantasia potremmo dire che S.Paolo in viaggio verso Roma si possaessere fermato sotto la sua chioma a riposare. E’ uno dei 5 alberi più longevi della Sicilia, è il carrubopiù “vecchio” di tutto il bacino del mediterraneo, almeno così dicono gliesperti.Non sono riuscito a trovare il carrubo di “Iozia” un esemplare di quasi 1000anni con un fusto bello dritto (una rarità) che sembra una colonna del tempiodi Segesta. Le coordinate riportate nella sua scheda sono sbagliate, ricopiate pari pari daquella del carrubo di Caschetto. Uno stimolo in più per approfondire le ricerche e per rifarsi questo bellissimogiro immersi nella splendida campagna Modicana. Per chi volesse fare il mio stesso giro in bici, è quasi tutto asfalto, soloqualche decina di metri non è percorribile con una bici da strada, io ho usatouna mtb, l’unica che ho.
