Trail Description

Schaftlach - Reutberg Kloster - Gaißach RundeDistance: 41 kmsDifficulty - Technical: 1/5 (easy) - Condition: 3/5 (doable, more info below) Total climb: 411 mMeetup: Sunday 17 June, 8.45 am at Hauptbahnhof before the BOB platform, be on time, the trains can be packed. See the plan below for the platforms. We will be taking the BOB to Schaftlach.DescriptionA rolling pre-low-alpine tour with a possible swim stop. This is a beginner mountain-biking tour, non-technical and mostly a warm up of things to come. We begin at the Hauptbanhof to take the BOB out to Schaftlach where we head off first downhill to Sachsenkam, a very small climb and 8 kms later has us reaching the Reutberg Kloster for a quick stop. Travel gets choppy with a half-dozen short hills over the next 15 kms - mixed terrain - fields, woods, gravel to paved road. Then an easy climb (40 meters over 2 kms) for our lunch stop at Gaißach. Eat light! We then climb to Mareinstein through the woods - long but not too difficult a slough (208 m over 9.35 km average slope of 2.4% with a few 13% bits, on the map this is the section between the little men - as a comparable measure of difficulty the Isar climb at Gründwald is 52m over 0.5 km with a much harder average slope of 12%) . From Mareinstein down for 4 kms and we head off back to Schaftlach. This tour is a bit of a first step -- an intro to the mountain biking area - from Mareinstein it is possible to continue up to the so aptly named Fockenstein for a nice 1200 m climb. Not our ride, at least not this Sunday.
The descent is not that much fun if it is humid, better for dry weather. This is more a run of area than a path down. Not for road bikes.
