Trail Description

Parked the car in the center of Villar-Saint Pancrace we head towards the main road D36, after a few meters turn right onto a small road uphill and after about a hundred yards from the entrance to a clearing turn left.
street remains for a few hundred meters still paved and then we lay our wheels on the gravel, with the change of the road you also start the climb.
At the first bend we neglect the path that branches off to the left and copy the curve onto so the trail that rises in the woods; going all the deviations are neglected and remain on the cart track leading up to emerge in a small grassy saddle dominated by military remains.
There raccordiamo now to another mule; turn left and proceed passing the foot of an abandoned building, a few meters and drive along an old barracks at several levels.
After passing the building the military road is blocked by a landslide, so we are forced to get out of our half and proceed walking in the middle of the rocks in this part you can see some of the inputs to the galleries now barred from the rubble.
The path returns to be pedaled, but the old soldier who accompanied us up to here because of disuse reduces a little trace remains always an easy road.
The forest is now more often and in a few bends allows for splendid views of Briancon and all its amphitheater of mountains, you will soon reach the majestic fort de la Croix de Bretagne, without problems cross the wooden drawbridge at the entrance and continue until you come out in the first court presided over by a well.
Always riding proceed to visit the fort following the trail that goes to the center of the complex, we turn to the side of gunpowder reach the top from where you can see the strong Infernet in the distance and along the ridge of the mountain you can see the fort of Grand Maye above us.
down towards the exit you can still make a visit to the stables located on the south side, you can still see very well the troughs and at the bottom of the majestic complex cuisine.
leaving the fort from the same point where we entered turn left again on a nice trail and walk sideways so to find ourselves at a crossroads , bend to the left and we continue to climb until you emerge from the vegetation.
proceed in the direction of the ridge, reaching in a short time a small building in ruins from which to our left for a track that leads to the Grand de la Maye; let's visit the fort to return and continue to ride in the direction of the ridge.
travels alongside another building and also ends the short trail, we descend from the mountain bike and walk on the narrow track that climbs up to an esplanade carved into mountain; this pitch was used as a sighting area or in case of need as the area of ??emergency for the placement of mortars.
Going back for a piece back along the path of ascent, then we take the right path that follows the thread of the ridge until you rejoin the trail that now descending towards the fort of grand Maye that we reach after a few rides.
After a nice tour of the fort and having admired the spectacular view of the fort offers a balcony, we return to the valley tracing the cart used to the climb to the junction near the fort dela Coix de Bretagne.
Here we bend completely to the left and take the trail that goes to the south-east; after a nice start in the bush surrounded by the path starts to lose altitude until emerge near a hut surrounded by a green lawn.
proceed straight ahead on the single track that gets a little 'more challenging due to the slippery conditions and the presence some came close in points a little 'exposed; exceeded walk these little difficulties we continue to go down without further problems.
At the end of the descent from the ridge cross a small stream and go back few meters to reach a wide dirt road.
turn to the right, in descent, and with great speed we get to meet the asphalt that we follow for a few yards; then in a small curve that bends to the left we see a signpost indicating a nice path, then turn right on the trail and descend through the houses for a hundred meters to emerge again on the asphalt surface.
You go straight for about five hundred meters and then turn left, a few rides and so we reach our car.
