Trail Description

Mount Legnone is the highest peak of all the pre-Alps. It looks out on the extreme northern edge of Lake Como. From the top, on a clear day, you can see from west to east, the Ligurian Alps, Monviso, Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn, the Oberland, the giants of the Rhaetian Alps, the Orobie to the Dolomites. To the south of the Po plain, the Apennines and, in windy and clear days, even Milano.Il Tour provides the circumnavigation of Mount Legnone, using largely the mule tracks and military roads built in defense of the Po Valley, in the case of entry of enemy from Valtellina or Switzerland (Cadorna Line). I also entered the climb to the top (which I highly recommend if it's a nice day), to be done, however, on foot, unless you want to bring your bike on the shoulder also down, but with the memory of a picture with the bike under the cross peak! The tour starts from Colico and held for about 24 km on asphalt until the town Gallino (Galin) about 950 m. to share in Valvarrone. Obviously this trait can be avoided by car, even though there remains the problem of recupero.La dirt road running from it Galin pedaled smoothly to a height of about 1900. From then it becomes a path sometimes collapsed to a height of about 2400. In this stretch the pedabilità is about 50-60%, although the best ones surely will travel more. The summit (2609 m), Aas said, can be reached only by foot from the climax mountain bike (about 2400 m ) .In descent from 2400 to 2100 or so, the road has collapsed in several parts and became a path with very closed hairpins and moved down (probably this year, given the large snow fall, will be even worse), attention because it is also in good part exposed. In August 2008 the stretch from 2100 to 1900 were in the course of the work of sistemazione.Il tour I entered includes the ascent to Passo del Colombano (2005 m), for about 200 m. in altitude and descent on the refuge Scoggione always on Military Road in part franata.Dal Scoggione Refuge (1575m) (Colico owned by the CAI, normally run in the summer we) at about an altitude of 1200 (Pra of Formica), is the piece challenging, being a path that goes down in a forest of larch trees, with various stony steps, then everything becomes easier because there tucking into a beautiful forest of beech trees, until you come out to Rusico (d. about 800). Here you have two options, or continue to follow the trail of the now unused pathways and therefore quite challenging, or get off at Colico along the concrete road which then becomes paved, until you cross again the downward track.
