Trail Description

If you like technical rooty, rocky decents, then the 3 hour climb from Reveredo is worth it. Once the climb starts there is not much to see until you get to Laura where the trees open out and on a clear day there must be a great view. The road contiues upwards through Laura and leaves the hardwoods behind and the pines replace them. At the head of the road (1836m) you come to the second tunnel built in 1941(the first is lower down and has a button to activate the lights for cyclists. Nice touch) No lights in here but its gun barrel straight. Check out the steel door on the right hand side about half way through. On the other side the road runs out into a mix of rock, sand and brocket tarmac. There's a short climb up to a viewing point and thats most of the climbing over and done with. There's a couple of kickers and a bit of a slog up a rocky section (ridable) about 1 km long but nothing to hard. Then the fun begins. The decent is about 1hr and 20 minutes and is a mix of rooty rocky forest track, there's rocky sections, steps and the last section after Mt di Arbino (Huge cross) is a washboard of rocky man made  path. If you ride a hardtail like I do you'll wish you had a full susser through this bit.Eventually when you braking fringers cant take any more you hit the tarmac, then it's a cruise down to Bellinzona. Not a ride for the uninitiated, but there is a short cut back down a road. The juction is on the right just after the mountain hut and takes you back to Arbedo. Infact it would make life a lot easier to come up here to miss out the longer climb...... Wish I'd done that....HmmmPS I had some problems with my GPS on the ride, so you will see gaps in the track. Go to www.mountainbiker.ch, look under Canton Ticino and for Alpe di Gesero, you will be able to down load the full track in 4 sections.
