Trail Description

Guided tour down Yungas Road, dubbed Death Road, The Most Dangerous Road, El Camino de la Muerte...From La Paz, there are several tour companies that will rent mountain bikes and drive you to the top of this road, and all you have to do is not fall off on the way down. Tommy, Ralph and I went with Vertigo Biking, being the cheapest with moderately reliable looking Haro's in service. Since I have years of riding experience, it wasn't challenging or dangerous, but it was some fantastic scenery and some fast riding. The first part is on Tarmac at basically as fast as your bike can go, and then the second half is all on dirt road about 1 lane wide in the narrowest locations, and never more than two cars wide. The road snakes through the jungle and the mist to eventually end up in Coroico. The guides we had were quite the comical group and wouldn't stop making obscene and juvenile remarks, but hey, whatcha gonna do.
If you are unfamiliar with biking, or do not feel comfortable on a bike, this is not for you. But if you have even done a dab of trail biking, I would think you could handle it.Photos: See all pictures and videos from Death Road
