Trail Description

Buona fortuna!

This is purely an excursion to mountain climbing cycle, certainly not suited to everyone, not only because of the approximately 1000m portage to bear but especially because of several dangerous steps on the ridge. The Cefalone is the highest summit of the ridge west of the Gran Sasso of Italy. Let's start from the square of Campo Imperatore Observatory and walk the easy path that arrives at the Passo del Lupo. A first part of the first portage climbs the Passo della Portella that connects the paths that climb toward the Valle del Campo Raiale hazards and from there to Pietracamela. The Cefalone is a mountain rich in history; There are in fact two "caves", the home of St. Franco hermit, one of which died. The mountain wall is made of large "rocks" or "bastions" of rock that accompany to the summit. Following the signs, you reach the fork in the "window" of Cefalone. Staying on the path of right there with climbing steps of First Instance at an altitude of 2533m or on the top where the view spans 360 degrees the other peaks of the Gran Sasso Monti della Laga, the Sirente, Terminillo and the entire Aquila basin. The most difficult part of the route is definitely the journey of the ridge that leads to the saddle of the Cefalone. Here are the steps to the second degree of loose rock, therefore, considering the dimensions of the bike, transit becomes much more difficult than normal. Once at the saddle of the bike Cefalone climb in and out of well-marked path to reach the Sella dei Grilli allowing a spectacular suspended between transit hazards and Valle del Campo Venacquaro. The descent continues in sublime single track on the track n. 101 From the valley floor begins the second and longest portion of portage that, by Source of Vencquaro, leaves the 101 and, using a small path, which dates back to the Sella del Monte Corvo. It is literally breathless in front of so much splendor while Chiarino Valley opens up before. A first section with the technical possibilities of variations leads to Stazzo of Solagne, after a long and fast dirt slips down to the Masseria Vaccareccia, the entire size of the Fosso Chiarino to finish at Lake Providence. In short, an 'excursion that leaves an indelible mark, however, if faced without the proper preparation, it can leave indelible marks of many but of a different kind. Good luck!
