In Rottau beginnt diese Tour am Parkplatz, direkt an der Straße die zum Adersberg hinauf führt, gleich neben der Bundesstraße nach Bernau. Nach den ersten Höhenmetern im Wald, verläßt man die Asphaltstraße und hält sich links Richtung "Gedererwand", "Maureralm" auf der Forststraße. Ein kurzes Stück führt über eine Almwiese (Schiebestrecke ca. 5 Min.), danach erreicht man eine abwärts führende Forststraße der man nun immer geradeaus und dann nur noch bergauf folgt. Der spätere linke Abzweig führt in einen Wanderweg hinein, der weiter oben nicht mehr befahrbar ist. Er dient allenfalls zur Vorbereitung einer TransAlptour, bei der man das Rad schieben und tragen üben will. Besser ist die fahrbare Forststraße geradeaus. Um die Maiswand herum erreicht man dann die Schlechtenberger Alm. Ab jetzt geht es auf einem kurzen aber sehr steilen Asphaltstück an der Gorialm vorbei. Das Felsgebilde des Staffelstein oberhalb der Gorialm kündigt das nahe Ende der Tour an. Hier ist es wieder etwas flacher und bald erreicht man das freie Stück vor der Steinlingalm. Zwangsläufig trifft man hier auf viele Wanderer, die mit der Kampenwandbahn bequemer das Almgelände erreicht haben. Bei der Alm ist eine Einkehr Pflicht und wer will kann noch auf den Gipfel zu Fuß steigen oder zumindest bis zum kleinen Kircherl am Scheitelpunkt wandern. Die Rückfahrt kann man auf der gleichen Strecke wählen oder man nimmt nach der Maiswand die Beschilderung "Aigen" und "Adersberg" und gelangt auch auf dieser Strecke wieder zum Parkplatz zurück.
