The open market on the main street of Champagnole was quite busy. It took us some effort to find the tourist center that was tucked behind the booths. The traffic on highway N5 was heavy just outside the town. We studied the map and decided to detour to D127. It proved to be a quiet and beautiful road. But soon the road took us back to N5 again. There were a lot of ascending today. We finally started to descend after we passed Col de la Faucille . It was around seven o'clock when we got to Gex. Though the sky was still bright, we figured that it would be too late if we carried on to Geneva. So we decided to find a place to stay in Gex .
