From the dangerous mind of the Boar ...
For years, there pedalo below, from Coppo Campotosto, Cortino from the Colle della Pietra, from the Fosso della Padula Cavata ... but I never dreamed hang onto to caress the its ridge riding a bike !! The Monte Gorzano is the highest mountain of the Monti della Laga. It is located in between Abruzzo and Lazio, at the border between the province of Teramo and that of Rieti (up to 1927 was entirely Abruzzo, and evidence of this was once also known as Monte di Roseto with reference to the then existing common area formed by the Cortino and Crognaleto). With its 2458mt is the highest peak of Lazio. Before you make what some called a splurge, I studied the paper for a whole week, I have obtained information from the old mountain, I constantly monitored the weather and then I recited the Prayer of the Boar. Evidently my God accomodated giving me one of the most beautiful hikes made in my life that I am about to tell.
Mild day, clear sky, no wind, sun with its first rays warms you already ... I just parked the Pandinobike in the country of Cesacastina when I realize I have forgotten at home the two stozze prepared with care by "mama." The Duck has only two sandwiches sad ... there is nobody around ... oh well divide the supplies. There is so much desire to climb that I would be willing even to graze the grass if I had entered a crisis of hunger. But here comes the usual mongrel dog Cesacastina that makes us the party ... perhaps by his instinct knows where we're headed ... and we follow suit. We start the climb on the brecciata for the Colle della Pietra, after a couple of turns, we realize that the fog that gripped hikers in the past days remains low in the valleys so we are comfortable today ... nothing should go wrong. Crossing the Plains to the left Vercereti where we take the road that goes right up to the coast of Troie. We ride at first on a bed of leaves, then left the stretch of woods, climb what I call "the snake", a stretch of dirt road, only if you are well trained, it allows you to ride up to the Source Mercury. We are at the Iaccere, just above the ditch dell'Acero, the latter crossed by icy stream, it seems that breaths .... it's beautiful image. We are able to stay in the saddle for up to an altitude of 1850 mt, the dirt road ends in the meadows giving way to thin paths that crawl in the famous Valley of the Hundred sources. At this point, as expected, began a long, exhausting, and exhilarating scenic climb to the summit. Between meadows, rocks, streams still dry winds the path 354 of the CAI In many places it is not visible but no problem, just point the Sella di Monte Gorzano. E 'from there that we are allowed to go up! Fatigue is starting to feel after about an hour of climbing, but just looking back toward the Gran Sasso chain to understand what awaits us in the summit. We make frequent stops to rest your legs and back, but no failure in us. Under the ancient valley looks like a lunar landscape of the past, dominated by the Costa Troie, surrounded by the Punta Cipollara (2125mt) and the Top of Laghetta (2369mt) and of course from Him. He that has plagued me for days, since a mountaineer told me that from its peak at 2458mt I could get off her ass in the saddle until Cesacastina ... 1300mt of negative slope. Ok back to us, we come to the Sella (2309mt) ... back to ride up to a beautiful frozen lake. The Gorzano is in front of us! Lacking about 150 meters of ascent ... the toughest. Before boarding the meantime we take a couple of pictures of the Fosso Ortanza that gives us dizzy and falls down in the direction of Capricchia. Meanwhile, the faithful dog mestizo is tireless and has already reached the summit. We follow him and just below the highest point we can again back on the bike to finish gloriously the long ascent !!! We are on !!! We made !!! I will lock the breath, looking around. What surrounds us? All over! From the Twin Mountains to the Carrier, From Pizzo and Pizzo di Sevo Moscio the chain of Gran Sasso to the Monte Velino ... we are speechless. Being here trying to explain what gives you this mountain is perhaps the most difficult if not you live in first person (with the bike then do not talk). After a chat and being taken for fools by some trekkers, we begin the long descent along the ridge of Gorzano. It comes down to alternating phases: fast on smooth lawn, lawn on uneven risking cappottaggio on dirt tracks and generally concave DH trail on steep slabs of rock on technical sections with steps, on old pack of large grasslands. Gentlemen here there is everything for everyone, you can choose where to spend instantly taking a view in case the travel companion even at 100/200 meters away. Descending towards the Colle della Pietra repeatedly cutting the mountain. The mongrel dog seems to have put the turbo and there is always the ribs ... with his tongue lolling. Bypassiamo the source of Quarticciolo swooping down to the shelter of the Cegno ... water supply and so on brecciata for Cesacatina. Down down at great speed but conclude with the Fosso dell'Acero what is rightful so suddenly turn right and cinghialata thrilling finale to the village. We are back ... but I face ... and the mongrel dog is no more! I believe, it's not a bionic dog! ... Only now I remember being hungry as a wild boar. The duck smiles at me, suggests a trip to the local trattoria Zì Mari while I reload the Pandinobike satisfied. In the meantime we are going away I hear a gasp behind me ... it's the mongrel dog who finally does return, and joyful jumping with his eyes, he says, "see you next adventure." Now there is refreshed by Mari Zì where in addition to "drink" we are given the "spasetta" (dense assortment of local cheeses and meats and homemade bread) that we devour in a few moments.
I do not know if the day today is only the result of my stubbornness and madness ... but surely someone up there to assist us and protects us.
