Routenbeschreibung

The Matese is among the most important and well known karst mountains of the peninsula. Its caves and canyon each year attract hundreds of visitors, including cavers, academics or sports simple desire to live an adventure different from the usual.
The underground exploration began almost a century ago, and continues to give great results : miles of galleries, halls and meanders. To date, the caves are recorded and studied over eighty, but at least as many are known and in the course of exploration.
Pozzo della Neve, Ms. del Matese, opens in the shady beech forests of the north-eastern sector of the mountain, just over the border from Molise . This cave is popular with cavers from all over Europe. With a depth of 1,048 meters from the entrance, was among the first Italian chasms to overcome the mythical threshold of a thousand feet deep.
Today explorations have led her to topographical development over seven kilometers in total, and campaigns caving continue to yield results.
A short distance away there is another mastodon, the Sfonnatora Tornieri, better known as Hell's Cul Bove. It has been explored to a depth of 906 meters, where a siphon very tight, perennially flooded, from continuing with the aid of cylinders. Flat For full territory of the park there is the cave of the field Braca, a true jewel of morphologies groundwater. It is a passage conduit that connects the plain of Campo Braca with the large karst field of Lake Matese. The cave is made particularly spectacular by the presence of salt lakes and meandering waterfalls, stalactites and stalagmites. Although all the cavities present difficulties that make it impossible for a tourist visit classic, its initial stretch is accessible to anyone who wants to try their hand at caving.
Near Letino, over the dam that blocks the flow of the river Lethe, the 'sinkhole of Cavuto is access to another tunnel karst. Through this cave the waters of Lethe through the limestone of Mount Favaracchi and throw themselves with an impressive waterfall in the dizzying Rava Prata, and flows into the Volturno.
And then there are the so-called minor caves, such as the chasm of Field Round, which feeds the springs of Lethe, the sinkhole at the Sava Gallo, one of the Pincera at Castello Matese, and many resurgences, both in altitude and downstream. The cave environment is immutable, perpetually enveloped in a darkness. Here, the clock does not make sense. Take a cave is equivalent to a journey through time. And on the Matese is a journey possible, for example by attending a course of caving, which allows you to taste the authentic flavor of exploration, or become directly explorers, discover remote regions and give them names. Speleology is really the last frontier exploration region.
The adventure continues on the surface.
Gorges of the Matese environments are quite peculiar: cutting deep into the limestone are traversed by streams that have carved out. Even the canyon require experience and appropriate equipment, but in the territory of the park is possible to visit a specially equipped, the Gorge Caccaviola. By cables tested and safe, and with specialized guides, it is possible to live an unforgettable experience. The jumps and waterfalls are descended using cableways and pulleys, the lakes are overcome with comfortable stringers. The journey takes several hours, and allows you to take home unforgettable memories.
Numerous karst features of this mountain is a playground, study and exploration of three hundred and sixty grad
