Il perchè delle selte...succede a volte che rimanga un pò d'amaro in bocca per una meta saltata...
in effetti sabato scorso ervamo partiti di buona lena per salire al Lema e scendere a Monteviasco, ma le condizioni del meteo ci avevano fatto tornare indietro senza completare il giro...
e allora questa mattina mi sono ripresentato all'appuntamento per un secondo tentativo, risoluto a non farmi "ricacciare" indietro...
Partito prestino da Due Cossani, mi sono infilato subito nella sterrata che arriva all'agriturismo del Roccolo...la strada corre parallela a quella asfaltata, ma il bitume ed i tasselli delle mie gomme non vanno d'accordo. La sterrata è molto tranquilla con qualche saliscendi e fondo in buone condizioni, ma soprattutto passa attraverso un bosco di faggi che mette buonumore. In lontanaza si sentono i picchi al lavoro e spesso si trovano i segni sui tronchi...Dall'Agriturismo Roccolo, si scende sull'asfalto (purtroppo) con veloci tornanti, giusto in corrispondenza del monumento a San Carlo Borrmeo. Fatte le foto di rito, si riparte in direzione Curiglia. Qui ci sono due opzioni: la prima prevede di proseguire per Viasco su una sterrata più o meno pianeggiate (Via Verde Varesina), la seconda un pò più impegnativa per la quota da raggiungere segue l'indicazione per Sarona e Agriturismo Le Gemelle. Io ho scelto la seconda. La strada da percorrere è appena fuori dal centro e sale sulla destra. Ecco, sale...sale sempre!!! in realtà si sale qualche centinaio di metri e poi, in corrispondenza di una edicola votiva si gira a destra e si va via in piano...Bene, preparatevi a spengere forte sui pedali, perchè dalla fine del tratto in piano la strada comincia a salire veramente, senza sosta. Il fondo è asfaltato e la strada è molto stretta, e si riesce a pedalare bene, anche se ogni tanto bisogna fermarsi a tirare il fiato. Si giunge all'abitato (molto in vendita) di Sarona e si prosegue passando in mezzo alle case, lungo una strada lastricata di binderi di pietra, in direzione Alpone o agriturismo Le Gemelle. Oggi il panorama era ottimo e la temperatura non troppo alta, ma con il passare dei giorni la salita potrebbe essere più ostica. Superato l'abitato di Sarona la strada torna ad essere asfaltata e ben pendente, senza sosta fino alla fine dell'asfalto, dove si biforca: a destra un sentiero va al rifugio Madonna della Guardia, mentre a sinistra una sterrata arriva all'agriturismo "Le Gemelle". Ottimo panorama e sosta ristoratrice a quota intorno a 1220, metro più metro meno. La strada per l'agriturismo prosegue in falsopiano verso la fine dell'abitato, direzione Nord. Appena dopo l'ultima casa si trova un largo sentiero sulla destra, la cui destinazione sembra sconosciuta anche ai locali interrogati in merito, mentre un sottile sentierino nel prato a mezza costa conduce verso il cartello "Viasco". Imboccato senza indugi e seguito molto attentamente...oggi la vegetazine era bassa ma attenzione ad andarci in estate perchè le felci sono alte più di un metro e possono nasconderne alcuni tratti. Seguendo il sentiero si arriva in mezzo al bosco di faggi. Qui la traccia si fa meno evidente e bisogna seguire i segni bianchi e rossi sui tronchi, aguzzando bene la vista giachè spesso la vernice è scolorita. Il fondo è infido, cosparso di foglie e di rami secchi che tendono ad infilarsi (chissà perchè) nelle ruote, nel cambio, sull'arco della forca...insomma in tutti quei posti dai quali dovrebbero star bene alla larga. Oggi la situazione era leggermente complicata dalle pietre umide sulle quali le ruore facevano poca presa. Ad ogni modo ho seguito il crinale in discesa, mantenedomi leggermente verso ovest e giungendo all'abitato di Viasco. Fuori dal bosco ho preso la strada sterrata in direzione est e l'ho seguita fino in fondo. La strada, che viene da Curiglia, fa parte della "Via Verde Varesina" (sui cartelli viene simboleggiata da tre V sovrapposte). Il fondo è discretamente mantenuto, con frequenti saliscendi, in un bosco spettacolare di faggi. Sottobosco ben pulito e mantenuto dai locali che evidentemente ne cavano legna. Lungo il percorso si trovano cartelli didattici che illustrano diversi aspetti delle attività locali, spesso scomparse oppure delle caratteristiche geologiche della zona. Al termine della sterrata, in località Forestale, si trovano i resti di una vecchia teleferica che traportava il materiale all'Alpe Cortetti. Da questo momento la sterrata diventa sentiero che si inerpica sul ripido fianco della montagna...quindi si spinge, anzi ci si carica la bici in spalla per superare un centinaio di metri di dislivello circa, fino all'alpe Cortetti, abbandonata ed in rovina da tempo, se si eccettua una piccola costruzione a ovest. Da qui comincia una lunga sequenza di saliscedi, con il sentiero che spesso passa in tratti esposti, quasi sempre protetti da "corrimano" metallici. Ottimi scorci sulle pendici a sud, coperti di abeti e faggi ed anche sul Lema ed il Poncione di Breno. Purtoppo il sentiero è poco pedalabile, un pò per il fondo cosparso di grossi pietroni, un pò per i tratti a forte pendenza. Ad ogni modo con un pò di impegno e molto sudore si giunge alla "fine della fatica" quando si trova il cartello che indica "Alpe Polusa". Da qui ci si lascia scendere verso Monteviasco. Il paese molto bello, tutto in pietra, merita una visita. "Best place for lunch" per me è il lato a sud della chiesa, dotato di panchine, panorama su Curiglia ed ottima insolazione!! Finito di mangiare, oggi ho pisolato sdraito su una panchina, al sole. Per chiudere degnamente la giornata sono tornato indietro a prendere un caffè in uno dei due bar-ristoranti (oggi colmi di turisti) che stanno in centro al paese, uno di fronte all'altro.
Bene, fine del gioco...adesso si fa sul serio!!! I gradoni di Monteviasco...son venuto qui per questi!!! Vestizione (non obbligatoria ma fortemente consigliata) prima di cominciare la discesa sui gradoni che conducono a valle. 1200-1400 gradoni in pietra di diverse altezze, forme e lunghezza segnano la strada! Il percorso è fitto di tornanti, quasi tutti stretti, alcuni esposti, molti altri protetti da parapetti in legno. I gradoni sono molto diversi fra loro e bisogna lasciar correre le ruote per non rischiare di impuntarsi e cappottarsi!! Con un pò di pazienza e un pò di tecnica si arriva alla fine della interminabile scalinata. Con un pò di ulteriore tecnica ci si possono concedere nose-press in grande quantità!!
Oggi, complice l'interruzione dell'attività della funivia e la concomitanza della Pasquetta, c'era molta gente sulla scalinata, sia in salita che in discesa. Tutti molto gentili si sono scansati per lasciare passare il ciclista, l'unico in giro!!!
Il rientro su asfalto verso Due Cossani è veloce e attinge alle ultime briciole di energia rimaste a diposizione delle gambe, che in tutta la giornata hanno pedalato e spinto per 8 ore, 29 km e qualcosa come 1767 metri (non 2680) in salita e hanno governato la bici per 1765 metri (non 2667) in discesa, (sono dati del Garmin...)

Party by Two Cossani, I got stuck in the dirt immediately arrive at the farm Roccolo ... the road runs parallel to the paved, but the bitumen and the pieces of my tires do not get along. The dirt road is very quiet with some ups and downs and bottom in good condition, but most passes through a beech forest, which puts in a good mood. In the distance you can hear the surge to work and often are the signs on the trunks ... From La Roccolo, you go down the tarmac (sadly) with fast turns, right at the monument to St. Charles Borrmeo. Without the usual photos, it starts in the direction Curiglia. Here are two options: the first is to continue to Viasco on a dirt road more or less pianeggiate (Via Verde Varesina), the second a little more challenging for the target position and follow the signs for Agriturismo Le Twin Sarona. I chose the latter. The way to go is just outside the center and rooms on the right. Here, salt ... salt always !!! actually go up a few hundred yards and then, at a shrine turn right and away you go flat ... Well, get ready to turn off strong on the pedals, because the end of the flat stretch, the road starts to climb really, relentlessly. The bottom is paved and the road is very narrow, and you can ride well, even if sometimes you have to stop to catch your breath. We reach the village (very sale) of Sarona and continue passing through the houses along a street paved with cobblestones stone towards Alpone The Twin or farm. Today, the view was great and the temperature is not too high, but with each passing day the climb might be more tricky. After the town of Sarona the road becomes paved and well-pending, non-stop until the end of the asphalt, where it forks to the right path goes to a shelter Madonna della Guardia, while on the left a dirt road arrive at the farm " The Twins. " Great view and refreshment stop at an altitude of around 1220 meters more less meter. The road to the farm goes on a slight slope towards the end of the village, heading north. Just after the last house you will find a wide path on the right, whose destination seems unknown even to local interrogated about, while a thin path in the grass hillside leading to the sign "Viasco." The fund is treacherous, sprinkled with leaves and dead branches that tend to slip (I wonder why) in the wheels, in turn, on the arc of the gallows ... in short, all those places from which they should be well away. Today, the situation was slightly complicated by the wet stones on which the ruore did little hold. Anyway I followed the ridge down, mantenedomi slightly to the west and reaching the village of Viasco. Out of the woods I took the dirt road heading east and I followed it to the end. The road, which comes from Curiglia, is part of the "Via Verde Varesina" (on cartels is symbolized by three overlapping V). The fund is fairly maintained, with frequent ups and downs, in a spectacular forest of beech trees. Undergrowth properly cleaned and maintained by locals who apparently will fare wood. Along the way there are information panels that illustrate different aspects of local activities, often missing or geological features of the area. At the end of the dirt road, in the village of Woodland, are the remains of an old cable car that traportava material Alpe Cortetti. From this moment the dirt road becomes a path that climbs up the steep side of the mountain ... so it goes, in fact we charge you the bike to get over a hundred vertical meters or so, until the alp Cortetti, abandoned and in ruins time, except for a small building to the west. From here begins a long sequence of saliscedi, with the path that often goes in exposed places, almost always protected by "handrail" metal. Great views of the slopes to the south, covered with fir and beech trees and also on Lema and Poncione of Breno. Unfortunately the trail is just pedaled, but a bit to the bottom strewn with large stones big, a bit steep for the features. Anyway with a bit of effort and a lot of sweat you reach the "end of work" when you see the sign that says "Alpe Polusa." From here you let us go down to Monteviasco. The country is very nice, all in stone, worth a visit. "Best place for lunch" for me is the south side of the church, with benches, panorama of Curiglia and excellent insolation !! Finished eating, today I pisolato sdraito on a bench in the sun. To close worthily the day I came back to grab a coffee in one of the two bar-restaurants (now filled with tourists) who are in the town center, facing one another. M², the end of the game ... Now the going gets tough !!! The steps of Monteviasco ... I came here to these !!! Dressing (not mandatory but strongly recommended) before starting the descent on the steps leading to the valley. 1200-1400 stone steps of varying heights, shapes and mark the length of the road! The path is full of twists and turns, almost all tight, some exposed, many others protected by wooden railings. The steps are very different and you have to let go of the wheel in order not to get stuck and cappottarsi !! With a little patience and a bit of technique you get to the end of the flight of steps. With a bit of additional technique you can grant nose-press in large quantities !!
Today, thanks to the interruption of the cable car and the combination of Easter, there were many people on the steps, both up downhill. All very nice they are shunned to let pass the cyclist, the only one around !!!
The return on asphalt towards Two Cossani is fast and draws on the last bit of energy left to full availability of the legs, which in all day pedaled and pushed for 8 hours, 29 km and something like 1767 meters (not 2680) and ruled the uphill bike for 1,765 meters (not 2667) in downhill (no data of the Garmin ...) Have fun
